Richard Attenborough has died, days before his 91st birthday.
I just hope they spare no expense with his funeral.
Will they spare no expense for his funeral?
He really made Jurassic Park something special and I’m sorry to see him go.
I remember the look on his character’s face, in The Great Escape, as he faced the German machine guns.
Freaky, I just mentioned him to the Mrs. last night as one of the stars of “The Sand Pebbles”.
“I really do hate that man.”
A line my wife and I use often when talking about someone annoying. He was great in Jurassic Park.
Maybe they’ll get Richard Kiley to speak at the funeral
Flight Of The Phoenix meltdown (via Quasimodem).
A Bridge Too Far is one of the great war films, and my favourite of those he directed. He was utterly chilling playing the serial killer John Christie in 10 Rillington Place - from playing him to playing Santa is quite a range.
he was the best actor in Jurassic Park
I’m gonna rewatch the movie tonight in his honor
pay special attention to the scene where he is eating ice cream. that’s his best scene
RIP Mr. Attenborough; you were responsible for some of my favorite films and you appeared in even more that you weren’t directly responsible for. What a legacy you’ve left us!
I adored him as Kris Kringle. I wanted him to be my grandpa, even though I was probably too old by then to have such silly notions.
RIP Sir.
That’s Lord Attenborough to you.
Grant: “I’ve decided not to endorse your park.”
Hammond: " :sigh: Me too."
He’s awesome in that movie.
Perhaps his two best performances are ones that haven’t been mentioned yet: Brighton Rock and Seance on a Wet Afternoon. He had a haunted look that slowly grew warmer with age.
And although I think he was overrated as a director, one only has to admit that Gandhi, a 3-hour biopic that’s completely about eastern religions, could probably never get made today. He was passionate and conscientious so major props to him for that (and for introducing Ben Kingsley to the film world).
Now, with Big X and The Scrounger (James Garner) gone, the Great Escape tontine is now down to John Leyton (The Tunnel King) and Angus Lennie (The Mole).
RIP.
Nah, me and Richie were tight.
These two guys are still around, however:
Weird. I always figured Attenborough was just a common British name, since there was the guy in Jurassic park, and the guy that directed Gandhi and the naturalist guy. For some reason I never realized the first two were the same guy and brothers with the third guy until I saw his obituary this morning.
I always wished he went with the original idea for a Gandhi theme tune.
I enjoyed his performance in Elizabeth as well as in Jurassic Park. He’ll be missed, but what a long and full life he had.
