Nobody but me remembers Elderly Man River?
There’s a lot to like in a Freberg; sneakers, glasses, filp-top head.
Are you kidding? That was what I linked to in my Facebook RIP post.
But I think my personal favorite is That’s My Boy
“I’m mighty thankful for all I’ve got.
But I’m sure glad he’s such a lousy shot!”
Seconded. The copy I have comes with a VCR tape of some of his greatest commercials - including ones with Ray Bradbury.
And Conspiraski theory.
Wunnerful, wunnerful …
Oh man, I haven’t thought of Stan Freiberg in years. My dad had a couple of his comedy albums, “With The Original Cast” and I forget the other one. That guy was hilarious.
Aw, man. God got him on a 412, I guess…

A 412??? WHAT’S A 412???
damn board won’t let me post in all caps…
Over acting. Let’s go.
This is really sad news. I can recite Green Christmas, Stan Freberg Presents: The United States of America, and most of the rest of his stuff by heart, even after all these years.
His absolute pinnacle was an ad for radio advertising, where he drained Lake Erie, filled it with whipped cream, and dropped a fifty thousand pound cherry into it. “Now let’s see them do that on TV.”
One of the real geniuses of a generation. He will be missed.
Some of us will be able to sublimate - others can’t adjust.

that would be Lake Michigan.
He ruined the ending, one of the loveliest parts of
opens door
<drum-ditty-ditty-drum-drum>
closes door
the whole piece.
That doesn’t make any difference.
It makes a difference to the sheep.

Did he coin the phrase “close enough for jazz”? I recall it from a comedy routine that I associate with Stan Freberg, but can’t recall any details.
Nitpick: Lake Michigan, not Erie. That’s a lot harder.
There was whipped cream and chocolate all over my shore for months afterwards.
Which is why it’s the first link in my previous post.
