I hardly knew you.
That’s a damn shame. I don’t suppose they’ll find an entire island of 'em, like with those rare penguins they thought were extinct.
Poachers suck. I saw an article somewhere that they are painting rhino horns and elephant tusks pink to discourage poachers-I hope it works.
Hands down winner for world’s bravest man or woman.
What if rhinos and elephants like pink?
Why does this discourage them? I thought the biggest market for rhino horn was in China and Vietnam, ground up as “medicine”?
I just watched the PBS show about this guy last week.
So…he’s dead now.
His horn is worth at least $100,000/kg on the black market.
Now, I’m not saying it’s right, but I wonder if Ol Pejeta Conservancy could use the money.
Apparently the dye they use causes nausea, vomiting, & diarrhea if consumed by humans & can also be detected in airport scanners (according to a facebook post I read)
I think he was long since dehorned in hopes that absence of horn would contribute to his longevity.
In the video he has the little stubby horn sort-of intact and the stump of the big one, or at least that’s how it looks to me.
Maybe this will cheer you up?
(Sung to the tune of, “I Want a Hippopotamus For Xmas.”)
I need a white rhinoceros for breeding
Only a male rhinoceros will do
The last one died today
There won’t be any more
Unless they artificially inseminate a rhino whore
With only a white rhinoceros’s splooooooge.
I’ll let myself out.
I had a recording of the Three Stooges singing the Hippopotamus song when I was young. I’m going to have to find it and destroy it now.
