Just on the news (11:10 EDT)–Chief Justice Rehnquist has died.
Peace be with him. A hard-working, thoughtful man.
As this is not the Pit, I shall refrain from further comment.
My prayers and good wishes go to his friends and family.
My thoughts exactly.
My ideology is fairly conservative, so I’ve always thought well of Rehnquist. He sure seems to have been the type of guy who kept going until the very end.
In the shadow of Katrina, with the deaths of thousands, & the destruction of a great city, the passing of no one man, however exalted his rank or station in life, can impact our country very much.
His death shall pass with less recognition than that of any Chief Justice before him, like a ripple in the vast pool of events, lost in the sheer scale of New Orleans.
