From the Guardian, “News International chief executive Rebekah Brooks has announced that she will no longer be in charge of its internal investigation into phone hacking.” It’s crazy, first that she was ever in charge of the investigation, given that she was editor of the paper when this was occurring, and second, that apparently she herself recognized the conflict of interest, and not someone higher in management.
I think Murdoch would be pretty foolish to not find new work for them. It only takes one ex-employee with copies of internal emails and an axe to grind to make things real interesting.
Leaked audio of Brooks addressing the NOTW staff:
Wow, I wanted to beat those two across the table with a tire iron.
Wow, Paul McMullan actually said, “I’ve always said that I’ve just tried to write articles in a truthful way and what better source of getting the truth is to listen to someone’s messages.” What arrogance.
I have to share this about Paul McMullan and how despicable he is.
This is from a Radio 4 interview where he is talking about an article he had written in 1995 for NOTW about the daughter of the actor Denholm Elliott -

Sociopath?
McMullan looks like Bruce Banner after transforming back from the Hulk – looking battered and swallowed up by stretched-out clothes.
Something I am starting to see mentioned is this:
According to this page:
it reads like Police could be Foreign Officials.
One wonders if this is why Murdoch is starting to panic as it may be exposing the mother company to a world of hurt.

Nice piece from today’s *Guardian * detailing various denials put out by NI and the police over the last few years.
The Tommy Sheridan case is interesting because it could mean that Coulson may have perjured himself in court.
Nope. Everything we heard was all over Twitter and the news sites 5 mins later. Then everyone rushed to the windows to see NoW staff filing out. I don’t know anything that’s not in the public domain.
Rather not say any more; in future if anyone asks me what I do for a living I’ll just say I test weedkiller on kittens, or something equally blameless
I hear you, I work for a large pharma company. I don’t actually drop acid into the eyes of bunnies whilst stealing the rice from starving babies, but that seems to be the default assumption.
Ha, I used to work for a large pharma company, too, before I joined the newspaper industry.
Why Coogan?
Balls! I didn’t realise that was the expected career trajectory.
Actually, in a previous existence I also sold cars…what sort of monster am I?
You DEMON!
Still, wonder if the fallout from this will touch the Daily Mail. Is that too much to hope for?
Alastair Campbell asks the same thing. Anyway, it seems to be spreading. I heard that the offices of the Daily Star were raided yesterday.
I know…The children are too young to be told that story yet.
And talking of monsters, as much as I dislike Murdoch I can’t say I hate his tabloids any more that the rest of them. Anything that induces a shitstorm on the lot of them is OK by me.
And speaking of “OK”…will Richard Desmond also be pulled into this? surely not! NI, The Daily Mail and Northern and Shell? Oh happy day indeed!
That’s because Clive Goodman (the guy who was jailed) has been doing some freelance work at that newspaper. Perhaps he took the same working practices as was used at the NOW to the Star.
Regarding the PPC, nobody has mentioned that the Desmond stable of papers no longer comes under the remit of that cosy member’s club. This is because the membership dues weren’t paid a few months ago. So if you want to complain about anything published in the Express or Star papers you have to take that complaint directly to the paper. This just proves what a farce the PPC is.
