Road Construction Term: Piloting?

What does it mean when a website says “traffic will be piloted through the construction”? Or, “…piloted through the new alignment”? …Is that just fancy talk for a new traffic pattern???

I assume that’s when there is only one lane open, they stoip traffic at each end, and you follow the “pilot” car when it’s your turn. Usually happens when the single lane is long enough that one end cannot see the signals from the other. Ensures you meet no oncoming traffic, as when the convoly following the pilot car is through, the pilot car turns around and leads the other traffic the other way.

Not sure why that’s necessary for an intersection?

Right. The pilot car/truck.

Where I live, and there has been LOT’s of road construction, I wonder how it is done when the flaggers can’t see each other and there is no pilot vehical.

Radio lic plate numbers and type of vehicle for the last car that was let through?

“White Subaru, lic ending in 123 was the last one”.

?

That is precisely how it works.
