He got banged up pretty good and had a pretty long recovery, but he’s OK now. The accident happened before I met him.
Traveling the Great River Road in the Grafton area may not be possible right now, because of all the flooding.
I viewed the 2017 eclipse in Fulton, and afterwards checked out a really cool independent bookstore in the downtown area called Well Read Books, and they do have a Facebook page but no website.
I’m attending the National Genealogical Society (NGS) Family History Conference. And I have been wanting to take road trips and see America rather than fly and this is the perfect opportunity to start.
Thanks to everyone for the excellent suggestions. I just wish I could add a few more weeks to the trip.
U.S. 50 to MO 100 is also a scenic route with nice wineries and restaurants. It has far fewer good views of the Missouri River, however. But at least the combines usually outnumber the sports bikes.
For that matter, the Amtrak route between Jefferson City and St. Louis has some great views of the Missouri River.
And the river, Amtrak, wineries, sport bikes, combines, the Katy Trail, MO 94 and MO 100 all come together at Hermann, MO. Don’t miss it.
Cool. I hope you enjoy the drive and your stay!
I also like taking trips off the interstate. Last year on my birthday I drove up the Great River Road from St. Louis to the Quad Cities. I’m trying to make a little road trip my yearly birthday present to myself. My birthday is this month, but I haven’t decided yet where to go. I’m leaning toward northwest MO, Iowa, and Omaha.
Raises hand…U’City here!
I agree about Eureka Springs AK and much of Northern AK/Southern central MO…
If you like pristine rivers check out the Ozark National Scenic Riverways
The Johnsons Shut ins are also extremely unique !https://mostateparks.com/park/johnsons-shut-ins-state-park
Hi!
I grew up in St. Charles County, moved away for quite a while, and now I’m back, hopefully for good. I’ve been back for about three years. When we moved back, I really wanted to live in St. Charles, Webster, or Kirkwood, but my wife’s job is in Chesterfield so we decided to live here. It’s OK. Good schools. Just boring as hell and you have to drive everywhere.
The wineries between Herman to Defiance on Hwy 94 are great this time of year (and even better in the autumn).
Clayton and the Central West End areas have some great dining options if you are so inclined.
Hey. Cumberdale, when are you heading to St. Chuck? I hope you enjoy your stay!
I know a couple people there. That’s all.
Hey. Cumberdale, how was your drive and your stay in our fair city?
Wish I’d caught this thread when it was fresh. The OP’s route would have taken him (her?) within feet of my house. I’d have taken them out for a cup of coffee.
If you’re in that area, Elephant Rocks is also worth checking out.
