Roads on the border -- portmanteaus

You’ve probably got this, because it’s a massive road, but I stayed in a motel on the Tamiami Trail between Tampa and Miami once.

It has Tamiami, Florida, a CDP that’s named for the Trail.

That brings up the issue of how to treat names that are both those of a place and a road, with the road going through the place. There’s a couple others on the list as well, but only one of the two. There’s now a separate section for roads, so should both be on the list in different sections? I’m thinking they should.

I doubt if Wikipedia has a policy for this and I’m not even sure what to search for to find out if they do. Anyone have any ideas or thoughts?

It’s actually Nordonia Hills - Northfield (Village and Center), Macedonia and Sagamore Hills. Norton isn’t anywhere near us and they have their own school district

This one is not as official as some of the others you list, but there is a hip neighborhood called, Frelard. It lies between Fremont and Ballard, two of Seattle’s more culturally and historically important neighborhoods. Several businesses use it in their names now.

Not roads, but some other examples:

There’s a massive bar on the border of Florida and Alabama called the Flora-Bama.

The Delmarva Peninsula is made up of parts of Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia.

And then there’s Texarkana, Texas, which was named for Texas, Arkansas, and Louisiana. (Though, despite the song lyrics, it’s definitely more than a mile from Louisiana.)

Fortunately, I always double check these things before adding them, so I caught that.

I don’t restrict the entries to just official names and have some that are just as unofficial.

I decided not to add business names to the list. Too many and they’e not really geographic names.

Yeah, got 'em.
