For anyone who watches Nikita on the CW - what is the knife that Roan (the creepy guy) uses?
Here you go:
Classy. How lethal is it?
The guy who designed it called it “the epitome of practicality and function”.
It would appear to be just the opposite.
Well, the karambit is a traditional malaysian/indonesian design. You hold the knife in a reverse grip with your forefinger through the hole, blade sticking out of the bottom of your fist with the edge foreward. I assume there’s a martial arts style that is supposed to complement this, presumably utilizing punching motions to make slashing cuts.
It’s still a very short-bladed knife, though, and anything with a bigger blade will give you more reach and has potential to do more damage.
It looks vaguely Klingon. Sort of “baby’s first d’k tahg.”
It looks like those law enforcement knives, I forget but can look them up later, that cops pull when wrestling with the bad guy. They’re very effective at slashing a close-in attacker. The main benefit is that they are usually fixed blade and held in a holster type thing, so the cop can simply put his hand on it and come out slashing.
This Emerson is a folding knife, but the little thing sticking up from the blade hooks onto your pocket when you pull it out and the knife opens as it leaves your pocket.
Cops with knives on their belts? You’re kidding, right? Batons, Mace, ASPs, Tasers, and guns. Maybe weighted gloves. That’s about it.
Cops don’t stab people, because they don’t need or want to. Any lethal force they want to deliver will be done from a distance. Anything hand to hand, they’d much prefer if there wasn’t blood spattering everywhere.
I’m guessing Fubaya is referring to this sort of thing, that a lot of cops do carry on their belts.
Of course they aren’t intended for fighting. They are designed to make it easy to cut clothing or ropes without endangering the person you are cutting free. Incredibly handly when you need to cut someone free from a burning car, cut off nylon cuffs or cut yourself free when you get hooked up climbing though a fence.
Not so good to “pull when wrestling with the bad guy”.
As for the Karambit, it is a modified sickle, a weapon that people were forced to learn to use because they were forbidden from carrying tools that were actually designed to injure humans in a fight. That really tells you everything that you need to know about it.
That isn’t to say that it is useless, but it was a weapon forced upon people because they weren’t allowed to use better tools that were purpose designed as weapons. By definition, there are better weapons: those that were designed as weapons.
Sorry guys, I should have came back and found it for you. I was thinking of the Ka-bar TDI, video here, but it’s boring until about 5:45.
Every cop I’ve seen lately had one.
How would that possibly look anything like the knife in the OP or what I described?
