Rob Riggle: Daily Show commedian and 9/11 hero

Yes, you read that correctly. Maybe it’s common knowledge, but it wasn’t to me.

I don’t normally make threads like this, but it was Zeldar’s 9/11 ATMB thread that reminded me of this. I was going to post it in that thread, but it didn’t seem to quite be appropriate.

As we are approaching the ninth anniversary of that horrendous day, I understand that many of us like to recognize those who were called to help out at Ground Zero upon that day. While this person is just one of them, I believe some people might be interested knowing this about him.

Here is a video interview with Kevin Pollak about the guy’s service. The interview proper starts at 22:24, and the 9/11 specific stuff at 45:50, and lasts about 10 minutes.

It’s worth pointing out that this video is entirely not safe for work, and I’m just four minutes in.

Haven’t watched it that far yet, but after watching a bit of it, now I’m subscribed to the podcast and downloading a few of the more recent episodes, so thanks for the heads-up!

I wasn’t aware of that either - interesting.

I think The Daily Show was better for having his POV for a while.

For those of us who can’t watch the video, can someone summarize why the guy’s a hero?

He’s in the Marine Reserve, and his unit, being the only unit in Manhattan at the time, was activated on 9/12 and participated in searching for survivors and bodies.

Yeah, that’s it. I also forget that people actually watch videos at work. Yeah, Kevin’s got a potty mouth. But there’s no nudity, which is what I usually think of when I see NSFW.

Ben Curtis, the “Dude you’re gettin’ a Dell!” guy, was also a hero on 9-11, administering first aid he learned in Boy Scout training to several wounded people and helping them to safety from the debris clouds.
