Robber blows up Florida ATM

I’ve always wondered what the inside of an ATM looks like. This poor ATM got totally opened up. Whoever did this used a lot of explosive material.

I feel bad for the local residents. They will have to drive several miles to find another working ATM. This one may not get replaced for a long time. I suspect a ATM machine must cost over 50k. Way more money than the stolen cash.

“Think you used enough Dynamite there, Butch?”

You know, instead of providing a Google link to a news site link, you could just provide the news site link directly.

Google provides Amp links anytime I search for a news story.

I get a Amp link when I copy it. I prefer the direct link but Google does what it wants. Probably because I’m browsing on my phone with Chrome.

Clarence Boddicker: Shit! I don’t believe it!

Bobby: What?

Clarence Boddicker: You… you burnt the fucking money!

Bobby: I had to blow the door! What do you want?

When explosives are outlawed, only outlaws will have explosives.

It’s relatively trivial to copy the actual link. If you’re in Chrome, tap the “share” icon on the top right of the story. A menu will pop up. One of the menu items will say “Copy to clipboard.” Tap on that, save the link to your clipboard, then paste it into your post.

Huh. Got blowed up real good. Apparently there have been two prior similar hits in the region since November, in Olsdmar and the westside of Tampa.

Eh, it will be an inconvenience but there are 3 other Regions Bank branches within 4 miles (not counting other banks’ ATMs on the same or adjacent blocks to that shopping strip), according to G-Maps. Which seems not bad by Florida standards. OTOH all banks in the TBay area are gonna have to incur in increased security measures for their ATMs and branches until this gets solved.

I am curious how badly the ATM cash was damaged. It should be covered with explosive chemicals that ATF & FBI labs can detect.

Looks like the roll of receipt paper was barely damaged.

I saw that roll of paper. Wish I had it.
(Hush, don’t say that. I am not a hoarder.:))

I know what you are getting for next Christmas - na na na na naaaaa.

Here’s a good video on the internals of an ATM;

I used to work at a company that serviced ATMs and other point of sale hardware, I repaired the actual ATM feed mechanisms, extremely complicated and noisy outside of the housing

the currency cassettes in the machines can hold a lot of money and there’s typically 4-5 per machine (5/10/20/50/100)

Blast-proof, fire-resistant receipt paper. Dang, you could make a good suit of armor out of it!

One sheriff deputy was reported to have asked: “Who are those guys?”

Blowing up ATMs is quite common in South and Central America, the usual method is to pump gas inside the cabinet to blow it open, here’s a video of a theft showing the MO.

I notice their apparent non-use of hand tools to peel off entangled wreckage from the cashbox made getting it out the door quite clumsier. C’mon, guys, you had hammers, use them again.

I think that should be shown in every pneumatics class from this point forward.

When outlaws have been exploded, the crows will feast. Until explosives are outlawed, let’s have a blast! Meanwhile, be glad the ATM bandits haven’t tried ID theft. Or maybe they did, but too stupid, so go blasting ATMs because exciting.
