Robby Gordon's Helmet- Is this for real?

For those who are not Nascar fans, last Sunday’s race at New Hampshire, Robby Gordon crashed under a yellow flag, and blamed Mike Waltrip for wrecking him (I don’t think it was Mikey’s fault, but that’s another thread). Robby stood on the track and when Mike drove by, he threw his helmet at Mikey’s car.

Now, this helmet is on eBay, proceeds to benefit Katrina victims. As of this morning (9/21) its up over EIGHT MILLION dollars!

I know in the past, eBay has been whooshed with kids making fake bids and driving up prices, but I thought they had gotten their acts together. Could this price be for real?? EIGHT MILLION DOLLARS?!

well…it is for charity, but I would think it would have to be Jeff Gordon, or Dale Jr. to get up to 8 million. I don’t think Robby has even made 8 million this year. Maybe Waltrip wants it as souvenier…but he may not have made 8 million this year either.

Wonder what it’d be worth if his noggin was still in it?

Not much - Robby Gordon’s a whiner. I don’t care for the guy.

Considering that the (current) buyer mostly sells a few .99 T-shirt transfers I don’t think I’d be spending that money yet.

I suspect something is wonky here. Take a look at the bid history-I see a few people bidding against themselves by extreme amounts.

It’s so ridiculous people are just playing around at this point and will retract their bids later. They need to close the auction.

Only Robby Gordon himself would pay 8 million for that helmet… and that only if his head was still in it.

Dang… it’s been pulled.

It is for auction though, according to the “legitimate press” linked to via Jayski.com
