I liked him in The Intern. Not a great movie but it was enjoyable.
Or he could just skip that step in the Bill Murray lifestyle plan and go straight to tending bar, maybe with a rendition of Old Broke De Niro playing Young Talented De Niro playing Jake LaMotta playing Marlon Brando in On The Waterfront. The layers of metatextuality would cause a mass explosion of hipsters explaining to each other what it all means, kickstarting the vlogger cryptoeconomy.

It helped alleviate DeNiro’s financial woes that his luxury restaurant and hotel group got as much as $28 million in government loans to tide them over during the pandemic.
“Per the data released (in July 2020), the Nobu group appears to be one of the bigger beneficiaries of the program, getting at least $11 million and as much as $28 million in assistance. Since the disclosures give a range for the loan sizes, it’s impossible to find out the precise tally.”
“According to an August 2018 CNN Business article, Nobu Hospitality hoped to reach $1 billion in revenue by 2023. “If you are ever lucky enough to have anything be successful … make sure you don’t short change yourself,” De Niro told the outlet at the time.”
Apparently DeNiro’s estranged wife didn’t believe in shortchanging herself either.
As to his last good movie, he was very good in Limitless (2011) and Silver Linings Playbook (2012), too, I thought.
The “accustomed” argument is the weakest thing. If a man is accustomed to his wife cooking for him, doing his laundry, etc., should she be required to cook meals for him after divorce?
I completely agree, although as others have said, in many jurisdictions it seems to have some basis in law, but it’s one of the stupidest laws I’ve ever heard of. Of course in the appropriate circumstances an ex-spouse might be entitled to some form of support for herself and/or any children she may have custody of – in the appropriate circumstances, such as if the spouse gave up a career in order to raise a family. But this situation seems like nothing but shameless greed on a massive scale. Hightower is doing this for no other reason and no other justification than the old “because she can”, or at least, “because she can try, and might get away with it”. But as I said earlier, the judge doesn’t seem to have much sympathy for her “need” for $375,000 a month.

Even so, I’m sure he was apprised of the possibilities when he got married.
So that’s why he did those ads along with all those “Money, Dear Boy” roles in crappy movies during the latter half of his career. However, I will say in those ads he doesn’t come across as desperate-looking as Orson Welles did in his many commercials.
But how much of the half-billion is liquid? I recall reading DeNiro has a lot of his money tied up in real estate (in particular, the Tribeca area). Also, I could be wrong, but didn’t DeNiro lose a good chunk of change in the late Bernie Madoff’s scam?
It’s been so long since De Niro has delivered a decent performance that I’ve seriously started to wonder whether he was ever that good an actor.
Robert De Niro can no longer act, beyond playing the natural asshole that he is. He is the same asshole in every recent movie. You can’t fake that shit.
They’re not divorced yet.
He has been - I remember thinking it a bit odd a year or two ago that he showed up in not one but two low-rent, badly written ads on TV here in the UK. I guessed he was hard up for cash for some reason but didn’t care enough to Google why - now I know.
He could do a lot of things to solve his tax problem. Sell some of his many valuable properties, stop taking private jets. He is a rich MFer and I don’t feel sorry for him in the least. It’s his choice to do shitty movies so he doesn’t have to give anything up. Divorce is fucking hard for people. People often go into poverty. A lot of people can’t afford to get divorced. What’s happening to DeNiro is Not A Problem. He has the money to handle it.
you know when don Imus had his tv thing he had bo dietl of all people doing movie reviews and i cant remember what movie de Niro was in but his quote was " this movie was so bad DeNiro might as well just quit Hollywood and try porn "
I wonder if he thinks he’s at that point
Pretty sure Bob De Niro is gonna be fine. $375k sounds like a lot, but he can pay for that with some voice work, of which he does well.
He is doing US TV ads now with other celebs like Lady Gaga to promote a place that rates health companies.
And Lady Gaga isn’t exactly broke either. Bob will be fine.
