I really hope DeNiro does not apologize, because there is nothing to apologize (to Gingrich or his ‘condemned to hell until she repents’ skank adulteress whore) for.
If you think Callista Gingrich was insulted, imagine the staffer Newt is sleeping with and marrying next. DeNiro didn’t even mention her! I don’t care how long you’ve been in politics, it has to hurt when you’re snubbed like that.
Hell, I’m tired of people validating insults when they really ARE there. Shake your head, point your thumb at the offender and smile at the person next to you, maybe say something like, “ooh, better call the burn unit cuz it looks like I just got flamed!”…and then move on. Unless, of course, you’re afraid they might be right about you and now everyone will notice what a loser you really are. In which case, make a fuss–it’s easier than cleaning up your act.
I can’t understand your incoherent objection to Rush’s supposed racism. Take that bone out of your nose and post again.
Agreed
Really? Rush has never made a racist or sexist statement on his show? Do you actually listen to him?
Not even close.
Actually, no one would care because Dennis Miller is so unfunny at this point that his attempts at comedy create spontaneous spacial vacuums through which everything he says gets sucked and crushed before having the opportunity to flower into anything resembling jokes. Somehow, smarmy is supposed to be funny, I don’t get it but, oh well, maybe it’s just me.
Can someone clear up to me who DeNiro was accused of insulting and what the perceived insult against them actually was? It can’t be that he thinks that white women aren’t first lady material given the vast precedent to the contrary. It would be like asking whether the NBA is ready for a black basketball player. In most other cases of offensive comments it is at least clear what the insult is.
By and large. At any rate, it’s not safe to conclude “Liberal White Guy makes joke about white women, so conservative white guy should be able to make jokes about black women, or everybody’s a hypocrite.”
Some documented Rush quotes, from Snopes and Media Matters:
“Look, let me put it to you this way: the NFL all too often looks like a game between the Bloods and the Crips without any weapons. There, I said it.”
“Take that bone out of your nose and call me back.”
“I think the media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well. They’re interested in black coaches and black quarterbacks doing well. I think there’s a little hope invested in McNabb and he got a lot of credit for the performance of his team that he really didn’t deserve.”
“We are being told that we have to hope [Obama] succeeds, that we have to bend over, grab the ankles … because his father was black.”
*n Obama’s America, the white kids now get beat up with the black kids cheering."
Obama is “more African in his roots than he is American” and is "behaving like an African colonial despot.
Obama is “Halfrican-American.”
“you can’t criticize the little black man-child [Obama].”
And, of course, as **Sampiro **noted, he sang “Barack, the Magic Negro.”
I just can’t compare deNiro’s strange joke to that. Turnabout doesn’t work.
What leftist causes? An Obama fundraiser isn’t a leftist cause.
What, he’s just gonna let him get away with that? He’s gonna let this fucking punk get away with that? What’s the matter? What’s the world coming to?
I think it’s more akin to the saying ‘once you go black, you never go back’.
That’s just how I read it.
That settles it, I am not voting for Robert DeNiro.
Some people probably had the Bradley effect/Alabama racial miscegenation referendum in mind.
In fact, some of the respondents were probably the people the Bradley effect affects or that voted against overturning the unenforceable unconstitutional law against racial miscegenation.
That’s not the funny part. The funny part is that Gingrich is demanding Obama apologize. Because, um, reverse racism!
I demand Gingrich apologize for his wife’s horrible plastic surgery. It is an affront to white women everywhere.
And now screw Obama for fucking apologizing.
Pussy-ass punk.
Buncha cowards. Newt can go piss up a rope.
Oh goddamnit Obama!
I love the right wing notions of Obama as a “colonial despot” and dictator and Hitler 2.0, when the most fervent wish of his most fervent supporters is that he’d fucking grow a pair. “Barack you know I love you/did you see I waved/I believe in you and Joe/but the right wing is depraved” so stop reaching out to them!
DeNiro would have looked Gingrich in his porcine little beady eyes and said “You talkin’ to me?” Sorry, Gangster Octopus, but I disagree: I would vote for DeNiro. At this particular moment.
With Pesci as V.P.. I would love to see somebody demand an apology once Pesci has a “beer summit” with them; somebody might demand an apology once, but I don’t think they would again.
“There! That tell you how fucking sorry I am Rush? Huh? Cause I’m feelin’ REAL [Batman style ‘POW!’] FUCKIN’ [SMASH!] SORRY [OUCH!]!”
“We believe the joke was inappropriate” is not an apology, it’s a comment on the joke. “We are sorry” is an apology. Unlike DeNiro and unlike the rest of us, these people have to think about whether this joke might cost them votes.
That isn’t an apology. That’s commentary.
Let’s say I come over to your house and wreck your living room. Then I say, “Well, that was inappropriate.” That isn’t a statement of contrition, that’s just an acknowledgement of a deficiency in grace.
He potentially could have offended women in general, because who the hell really cares about the spouse of the president, unless you want to engage in “wife trophy-ism”? He probably meant it as a satire of trophy-ism, but it gets undercut by mentioning the specific names. It depends on the whole context of the remark, and his tone of voice. It could also be that he was making fun of himself, but not everyone is going to know his background.
Tell that to Hillary Clinton. (Or lots of other first ladies, but seriously.)
Even if he doesn’t mention the names of the wives of the leading candidates, it’s the same joke.
