Robert Earle Keen question

I don’t know anything about this guy but about 4 years ago I heard a live version of his song The Road Goes On Forever. I’m not a country music fan but I’m a Huge fan of a good story teller type artist and made a mental note to pick up his cd one day.

Today was the day.

Unfortunately they had 2 cd’s that had the song on it and they were both live discs…can you guess what happened next? I obviously got the wrong one because the timing is all screwed up and this version is zooming along at 90 MPH. Had I heard this version first I’d have never been interested in the guys music.

I bought Live from Austin TX recorded at an Austin City Limits show. This Road Goes on version sucks pretty bad. I skimmed the cd and I like a few tracks right away such as Merry Christmas, Shades of Gray, and Goin’ Nowhere Blues at first take.

Here are my questions for R.E.K. fans what CD should I get for a good version of The Road Goes On Forever and what CD is his best “story telling” cd?

No. 2 Dinner

Well, personally, I think Joe Ely did “The Road Goes on Forever” better than Keen did, so you might want to look up Joe Ely’s CDs.

And personally I think you should ignore this Blasphemer. Go with #2 Live Diner as Telemark says.

I would go with West Textures which has the original of “The Road Goes On Forever” and some other pretty great songs in the storytelling mode. My personal favorites from this CD are “Love’s A Word I Never Throw Around,” “Mariano,” and Shel Silverstein’s “Jennifer Johnson And Me.”
