Awwwww. Man; so many great songs and performances this man was responsible for and associated with!

RIP Mr. Steinman; you done good. Real good.

Wow, he was a great producer and quite the showman. Sad to see him depart.

Such a distinctive songwriter.

Many years ago, I heard a song on the radio and thought, “I’ve never heard that voice before, but I bet the song was by Jim Steinman.” It was.

Doesn’t need those dashboard lights on anymore.

Not a Meatloaf or Tyler fan.

But he did this, and it is one of my all-time favourites still:

I’ve always found his work with Meat Loaf and Bonnie Tyler too bombastic and cheesy, though I respected it, but I’ve never known that he produced “This Corrosion”, which is one of the greatest recordings of the 80s.

That and Dominion.

Aw man, that’s awful! I loved his songs. Sad.

Steinman and Meat Loaf were the perfect singer-songwriter duo. Steinman’s love of Wagner and Phil Spector gave him the ability to write bombastic, over-the-top rock anthems that were really just all about love and sex and teenage thrills, and Meat had the stage presence and bravado and voice to bring them to life. There’ll never be another songwriter like him.

Fuck.

Sometimes you just need bombastic, over-the-top arena rock and maudlin ballads with a touch of wry humor, and when you do, you need Jim Steinman songs.

Thanks Jim.

Thought I’d link to Jim’s contributions to the Streets of Fire soundtrack. He wrote two songs for it, and in true Steinman fashion, you can pick them out in about 5 seconds.
