If he’s a fan of any or all of the above, this is really enjoyable.

Monterey Pop

I also really like Pink Floyd’s The Wall and Pulse. Just watched The Wall again yesterday

Led Zeppelin’s The Song Remains the Same is good too.

Woodstock
A Hard Day’s Night
Help !
Gimme Shelter
Quadrophenia
Yellow Submarine
All This and WWII
200 Motels
for starters…

I’ll second this. Not only does it have great music, it is also a record of the Altamont incident, certainly a notable event in the history of rock & roll.

Thanks for all the suggestions. i’m going with the Tom Dowd doc.

Then do Gimme Shelter!

I’ll put Gimme Shelter on the short list for consideration for next year.

Looking forward to your thoughts on it!

Very good decision. Dowd was a great producer and the documentary is excellent.

I got my sister Concert for Georgea couple years ago. Fantastic show, Ringo & Paul, Eric Clapton, Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers etc. Michael Palin and the Pythons (and Tom Hanks!) even show up and do a great rendition of The Lumberjack Song in full Mountie regalia!

You won’t regret it.

Meanwhile, I’ll check out that Tom Dowd documentary.

Bob Dylan’s Unplugged DVD is one of my favourites.

Also for next year, does anyone have any opinions on the Moog documentary?

If we’re going for concerts I’d suggest either Pink Floyd’s PULSE (which I’d dare say I’ve watched probably 300 times on VHS) or The Wall Live In Berlin. They spend the first half of the concert building a giant brick wall and then most of the band plays from behind the wall. It’s also full of guest singers including Cyndi Lauper, Joni Mitchell, Thomas Dolby, Bryan Adams, Tim Curry and Albert Finney just off the top of my head.
If he’s a Pink Floyd fan (Roger or David) either of these should be extremely well received.

I’ve been a Netflix subscriber for a long time but just signed up for the streaming. Moog is on the instant play so I’ll watch that one of these nights. Last night I watched Classic Albums: Queen: Making of a Night at the Opera which I enjoyed a lot but my brother-in-law wouldn’t be interested in. I watched the Elvis Costellow interview with Elton John tonight and intend to watch the rest of the Elvis Costello stuf over time.
