I kinda like Robin Thicke - When I Get You Alone, which covers Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony.
The Who’s version of Hall of the Mountain King is pretty awesome.
People definitely should check out Wolfgang’s Big Night Out by the Brian Setzer Orchestra. He rocks out with such tunes as “Swingin’ Willie,” (William Tell Overture) “Honey Man,” (Flight of the Bumblebee) and the 1812 Overdrive.
“March of the Wooden Soldiers” is from *Babes in Toyland *by Victor Herbert.
Duke Ellington did a lot of Jazzy classics like *The Nutcracker *and Grieg’s Peer Gynt.
Picky, picky. The Tchaikovsky tune that NineToTheSky was referring to is “March of the Toy Soldiers.”
Hah! Serves me right. I got that information from Wikipedia.
If so, I haven’t been able to figure it out, either. But, they did versions of:
- Beethoven’s 5th Symphony (Chuck Berry’s “Roll Over Beethoven”, on “ELO II”)
- Grieg’s “In the Hall of the Mountain King” (on “On The Third Day”)
- Grieg’s Piano Concerto in A Minor (on “Flashback”)
IIRC, Erasure also did a version of “In The Hall Of The Mountain King”
As did the 60s band, SRC, on their second album, Milestones.
