The new movie Role Models, that is. Well, it made me laugh, especially Jane Lynch, who seems effortlessly funny.
Very simple story, but the laughs keep coming, and there’s a lot of excellent comedic talent. Really glad they made a good R-rated comedy, and didn’t tone it down for the more lucrative PG-13 rating.
My girlfriend and I saw it today and thought it was really funny. If the opportunity arose, I would definitely run around a field whacking people with a foam sword.
After 28 years whacking people with rattan sticks in the SCA, I’m in no position to make fun of LARPers. I thought the movie presented them well – it’s a patently silly activity, like most hobbies, but people have fun, and a sense of community.
Just saw this and it exceeded my expectations (love David Wain but Paul Rudd and Sean William Scott have so-so resumes). Everyone in the theatre seemed to really like it, and I heard a few people singing Jane Lynch’s praises on the way out. She truly is a comedy god. I only hope Bobb’e J. Thompson has a strong enough family to prevent him from Obnoxious Child Star Syndrome (don’t get me wrong, he’s fucking hilarious, but it seems like they let him get away with murder).
I really liked it. David Wain is awesome – Stella is one of the best things anyone’s done ever, not to mention Wet Hot American Summer – and Paul Rudd is enjoyable in everything he does. Their kind of deadpan, low-key sarcasm really appeals to me.
It wasn’t a wonderful movie – not as cohesive as, say, Knocked Up – but it was lots of fun to watch.
