Roles for the gipper

If Ronald Reagan hadn’t gone into politics what are is for him to do in Hollywood.true grit? Battlestar Galactica.?

Every Which Way but Loose

Darth Vader

oddly i think he would of been great on Galactica because he was good at projecting himself as everyone’s favorite grandpa …even if he was old fashion and slightly out of touch … he always gave a sense of "he means well " even if you didn’t agree with a damn thing he said …

He’d be in Cocoon (one of the lesser roles), Airport 77, Fantasy island, a very special episode of Family Ties, the role of Dr Siberman in Terminator, Captain Smith in titanic, Pa Kent in Superman.

But his biggest breakthrough role would be Willy Loman in the definitive version of Death of a Salesman, directed by Dustin Hoffman.

He may well have ended up in Airplane.

“Well, I speak jive.”

I think Reagan might well have appeared in one or more of the big disaster films of the '70s, like Poseidon Adventure or one of the Airport sequels. Those movies were filled with aging actors of Reagan’s type. They very much traded on their “all-star casts.” Reagan would have been a perfect fit for a harried airport manager or the stubborn official who doesn’t believe that the problem can really be as bad as Steve McQueen is telling him.

I can so see him as Bob, the owner of Bob’s Country Bunker, in the original Blues Brothers movie.

Yeah, anything with Robert Stack could have been done by Reagan, just not as well.

I’m imagining Nancy saying they like both kinds of music.

Robert Stack is a good comparison. I could see Regan hosting a show like Unsolved Mysteries. He was a good host.

Reagan was the same age as Vincent Price, which brings up the idea of having him answer Columbo’s questions — and play stage magician on the Love Boat, and get thwarted by the Bionic Woman — before doing voice work on the Scooby-Doo cartoon.

I can see him on Star Trek as a hidebound old diplomat who puts the Enterprise in jeopardy by removing Kirk and taking command in order to complete his mission.

Real-life Bojack Horseman in ‘Horsin’ Around’.
