Rolling Stone(s)

What came first; the Dylan song, the band, or the magazine???

Actually, you could start in 1935, or so…{url]http://tinpan.fortunecity.com/kowalski/112/artistswithsongs/robert_wilkins_1.htm#rolling_stone

  1. the band('62 or '63)
  2. dylan song('65)
  3. the mag('67)

IIRC The Stones found their name in a Muddy Waters song, and Dylan wrote his song in part for the Stones.

Moonshine nailed it:

from Rock Names by Adam Dolgins

Gypsy: Tom, I don’t get you.
Tom Servo: Nobody does. I’m the wind, baby.

Papa was a rolling stone.

Certainly the proverb about gathering no moss predates all of the above by decades, if not centuries.
