Rolling Stone's 'Immortals'...

Comments from the Peanut Gallery? I personally find some of the rankings questionable, but I’ll let the experts speak.

Have at it!

Makes you wonder why Michael Jackson is on there.

I think it’s a pretty good, if predictable, list. I don’t see Pink Floyd, though. A major oversight. And I’m kidding about Jacko…I think he’s highly talented.

At least RS didn’t make any ridiculous choices just to stir up controversy (coughBlendercough). The Velvet Underground is a little high though…

The only one that’s kinda iffy for me is The Doors (though I’m not sure who I’d put in their place–maybe George Clinton?).

Interesting that the top 4 acts are white, but then the next 7 are all black (as opposed to having them mixed up a bit).

The best guy they could get to write the article on Jimi Hendrix was John Mayer? Dear God.

And what, no Zappa?

Kinda weird that Lennon gets his own spot in addition to the Beatles’, wouldnt you say?
I also would have thought Bowie would have been quite a bit higher.
And yeah, I can’t believe Pink Floyd aren’t there.

Yeah…I’m a huge Beatles fan. But sometimes I wonder if there isn’t just a little too much hype. They were far superior in talent to the overwhelming majority of those who had come before or have come since, but still…

I was also stunned by the absence of Pink Floyd (and of Frank Zappa, although admittedly his base was somewhat smaller).

I liked some of the analyses, though. Even though, as Already In Use has pointed out, the choice of some of the ‘critics’ is also questionable.

As an aside, and in my humble opinion, the ranking given to Otis Redding – among others – seems a bit dubious to me. But maybe it’s just me.

Madonna by Britney Spears?

Jesus Christ.

Another “me too” for the Pink Floyd omission. I think the Grateful Dead should probably be in there, and possibly the Sex Pistols.

I love these kind of lists. There’s no right, there’s no wrong, just opinions.

VH1 did has done many lists, starting with the 100 greatest acts in rock history, and Lep Zeppelin came in fourth. Maybe that’s too high, but not to be included in the top 50 seems odd.

And Brittney writing about Madonna. Maybe they could’t find anyone else who wanted to.

d’oh.

See what happens when you get old. You lose your eyesight! #14. OK by me.

I probably would have put Springsteen ahead of both U2 (hard) and the Beach Boys (easy) but that’s really more personal preference than anything else.

Aside from that I don’t hate this list; which is unusual.
