Roman Era Movies

I was supposed to see 4 roman era movies for history, but I didn’t have time. I have already seen Life of Brian - Monty Python movie… would anyone care to supply synopses for a couple of others… just so that I don’t look out of place tommorow - Grazi.

The mid-'50’s movie version of “Julius Caesar” is pretty easy to fake- if you know the play, you know the movie. As a bonus, talk about Marlon Brando’s portrayal of Mark Antony; specifically during the “Friends, Romans, countrymen” speech- during the speech to the crowd, Brando was all tears and emotion, but when he turned away, he instantly reverted to a cold, calculating smile (thus indicating that Antony was a complete schemer who was using Caesar’s death to further his own ambitions).

Oh, and the movie version of “Antony and Cleopatra” was pretty true to the play until the Venusians began invading mid-way through Act II. Then it got sort of silly.

OK, so let me get this straight. For your history class, you have to watch 4 Roman era movies. Not read 4 Roman era biographies, or research 4 Roman era events, or read 4 history books about the Romans, but watch 4 movies. Not only that, but “Life of Brian” counts. You couldn’t find the time to do the oh-so-hard homework of watching movies?!?

Am I alone at expressing wonder at such a thing? <sigh>, I’m trying to be nice cuz this isn’t the pit, but come on…!

PS, “Employees” is spelled with 3 E’s, not 2.

I’m with Athena here. There are 3 E’s in employee. Seriously, If I had ever gotten a homework assignment that was to watch movies, that would have been an easy A.

If I was discussing Lucy Lawless but I wrote Lucy Topless, would that be a Freudian typo?

I had already posted this in your previous thread http://www.straightdope.com/ubb/Forum4/HTML/004559.html

But I figured it bears repeating. If knowledge of the movie below doesn’t give you an A, I don’t know what will.

Matri-Phony (1942)
with those lovable rogues, the three stooges.
Plot summary (stolen from http://www.imdb.com))
The stooges are potters in ancient Rome during the reign of Emperor Octopus Grabus. When the emperor orders all beautiful red-headed women to be brought before him so he can select a wife, Diana, a pretty red-head, seeks refuge with the stooges. Some soldiers find Diana’s hiding place and they are all brought to the palace where the stooges escape and try to pass of Curly as Diana, having broken the emperor’s glasses. Their ruse fails and they’re caught by the palace guards as they try to escape.

Hey, I forgot about that previous thread… Thanks tho. As for the not watching them… the class is somewhat of a joke. I am getting a 99 and the teacher is retiring next year. That is not to say that I don’t work hard, but this assingment is even less serious than the usual. As for Employe’s I know it has that many e’s, but my clever assitant doesn’t. That was the only spelling error thjat appeared in a jpg and not in the editable text of the page. Sorry about that. Use the company tho… I need money, and I’m very good.
