He was comparing Traci Lords to Polanski’s victim, who - in addition to being 2 years younger - is extremely unlikely to have anything in common with her, regarding physical maturity.
I didn’t take it that way; only that there may be underage girls who have bodies that could understandably arouse men, but that doesn’t make them “pedophiles.”
13 is borderline. And too far down on the low end of borderline for me to give a guy the benefit of the doubt, especially when he has to ply the victim with drugs and alcohol to get his way. And the physical act of ephebephilia is mostly illegal in most states anyway, so his point sucked.
Bumping the thread.
The Polish government has denied a U.S. request that he be arrested while filming there: http://www.cnn.com/2014/10/30/world/europe/roman-polanski-poland/index.html?hpt=hp_t2
I could really care less what the victim feels about Mr. Polanski.
Violent crimes are crimes against the entire society, not just against one person, and as long as Polanski goes unpunished, that hurts all of us, and puts at risk all young teenage girls.
I suspect you could not care less.
Well, not all teenage girls. The ones in the U.S. are safe, at least from Polanski, as long as he remains in effective exile.
Elia Kazan got a standing ovation. I remember Ed Harrus sitting silently and not applauding but other than that the response was overwhelmingly positive including from people far more openly political, such as Warren Beatty.
Look at the footage again. Eventually around 25% of the crowd gave him a standing ovation, most remained seated while clapping politely (which can probably be described as lukewarm), a number of people didn’t applaud at all.
