The liberal candidate has won, but the nationalist candidate says he’s not going to accept the results. It’s the same old song.
Dammit, I miswrote. He’s won the exit polls anyway. I’m leery of good political news these days.
I take it that “nationalist”, in this context, means “wants the nation to be conquered by Russia”?
The page linked now says the exit polls were right, and he’s won the election.
And the nationalist candidate has admitted defeat, which is nice.
Well, he changed his mind, which is definitely not nice:
Simion said in a statement he has filed a request to Romania’s Constitutional Court to annul the vote, claiming he had “irrefutable evidence” that France, Moldova and “other actors” meddled in the ballot, but did not present any evidence. He also alleged that “deceased people” had participated in the vote.
He alleged “an orchestrated effort to manipulate institutions, direct media narratives and ultimately impose a result that does not reflect the sovereign will of the Romanian people.”
He also said he admitted defeated at first just to avoid bloodshed. He didn’t bother to explain what he meant by that.
