I wonder if there was the equivalent of the baby boomer problem today? A surge in slaves decades ago results in a surge of homeless geriatric ex-slaves flooding the cities and inconveniently begging and dying in droves? This would likely result in the usual result - pass a law requiring Old Age Pension - i.e. owner provide food and lodging - for old slaves.
