Romanzo Criminale

Has anyone been watching an Italian made series (subtiltled) called R.C. ?

Based on a true story, and set in the seventies, its about a group of petty criminals who make a lot of money from a kidnapping and decide to use the money to take over Romes underworld rather then spend it on having a good time.

At that time in Italy there were a lot of terrorist outrages and kidnappings by both the “Red Brigades” and Fascist groups.

Its against this background of Machiavelian machinations between their gang, the terrorists, the intelligence services, other gangs, the police, corrupt police, former friends and family, the Mafia and the Camorra that we see their brutal rise to power.

Many of the people involved have conflicting loyalties, with the people on the side of “law and order”, each working to their own agendas, even if this means working against each other.

Often very violent, sometimes sickeningly so, it is incredibly addictive, though I can understand that it most definitely wouldn’t be to everyones taste.

It seems more "real "then say the Godfather, probably because the story is based on actual events.

Also its strange to see hardened, powerful criminals riding around on small motor scooters, or driving small cars.

And you can never predict what is going to happen next.

When you think something bad is going to happen sometimes it doesn’t, and vice versa.

Likewise friendships and relationships, sometimes they happen with no relation to the plot, and sometimes they end likewise.

It hasen’t finished yet on British t.v. so I’m still getting my fixes.

Anyone else like it out there or have I got it all to myself ?

There is also a film apparently, but I haven’t seen it so can’t comment on it.

Well it looks like the answer to my question was no.

Mind you in the U.K. it was tucked away on Sky Arts channel.

Sigh !

No, haven’t heard of it but thanks for sharing. I’d check it out as soon as I can find a way.

Question though: Wikipedia calls it a film. Is it like a long film broken into a miniseries (152 or 174 mins)? Or do both TV and film versions exist?

ETA: Should’ve went to IMDB. 2005 film / 2008-2010 series.

Well I’m glad that I’m spreading the word, looks like virtually no one has seen it but maybe a few more will now.
Its a shame that more people don’t know about little gems like this.

Sounds awesome. I’m moving to Italy soon and need to learn the lingo too so will check it out for entertainment and listening practice.

Yeah, I have the box set. It’s good, though I watched it after I had been watching a lot old the Sopranos episode and it doesn’t quite measure up. But then, what does? Still quite enjoyed it, though.
