Ronnie Montrose died

Linky.

Sad day.

Slee

Yeah sad, the Montrose album was just great.

Damn. I loved his album Open Fire. His cover of Town Without Pity is the definitive version, IMO.

Sorry to hear that. Listened to Montrose quite a bit back in the 70s-80s.

Wow - a player I really was into as an early teen. The album Montrose holds up surprisingly well as a heavy dose of swaggering cock rock. After Rock Candy, I bet he never had to buy a drink in a strip club again.

RIP Ronnie.

I loved his version of “Town Without Pity” so much I bought the album, such a great album, and was so excited when I heard he was coming in concert. I was surprised to hear that there were 2 opening bands, and since I’d never heard of either band I hoped they would’t play long. I made sure I got there early enough to get a good seat for Montrose and ended up thinking both opening bands were pretty good, enough that I bought their albums.

Montrose’s opening bands were Journey and Van Halen.

Forgot link earlier: Ronnie Montrose’s Town Without Pity.

Damn, another piece of my past is gone. Sorry to hear it. I was always partial to his version of Connections, the way it conveyed the mounting desperation of the lyrics. There was no hint of that in the Stones’ original and I think it’s a credit to Montrose for recognizing the potential in that song.

Well… fuck. :frowning:

Whoa! Suicide.

Curiously, the original link in the OP quotes his website as saying of him: “He chose his own exit…” even after saying it was prostate cancer that got him. I guess his people knew all along.
