Roomba! -- The Horror!

my furry girls watch the roomba from the stairs. nod the naughty will sit on the scooba while it charges. she completely ignores the roomba in its dock.

scuba ben, my roomba has a remote, i just hit the button and walk out the front door. it is happily back in its dock recharged when i return home. my allergies attack during housework, having roomba do its thing as soon as i leave gives the dust at least 7 hours to settle before i return.

the scooba is a bit more hands on. i usually have it going downstairs while i am upstairs.

both are the best things ever.

Careful.

I hear those things

can turn on you.

Thanks for the note. I’m thinking of setting up the Roomba to vacuum at 9 AM twice a week, and just leave it set that way year-round.

Yeah, I could push a button on a remote, though it’s so much easier just to set it up and ignore it.

How good is the Roomba at cleaning out the crack where the rug meets the wall?

Yeah, they can be vicious.

That’s half the reason I bought mine.

Dunno. Am I a bad person for showing you this?

WARNING: link rated PG-13.

Hey, everybody, let’s sing!!

You are my Roomba, my lowly Roomba
You make floors shiny when dusty gray
The cats don’t know, dear, how much I love you
Please don’t take my Roomba away.

I’m sure she’s very charming in real life. I love her just from seeing her pics! There’s something so very luxuriant about cats with medium/long fur.

You’ll need one of these, then.

This, however, strikes me as the ultimate feline torture device.

Someone needs to mount a laser pointer on their Roomba to mess with their cats.

Anyone with experience with Roomba’s and toddlers? I have a couple of rug rats and not sure if it is a) safe and b) fun for them.

I’ve let my Roomba bump into my foot and it was surprisingly gentle considering what it sounds like when it hits a wall. Dunno how a little kid would react, but I don’t think it would hurt one.

My two year old is scared of it and won’t go near Roomba. My 5 year old, on the other hand, thinks it is fun to run around after it. THe vacuum feature is underneath, so even if it ran into your toddlers, it wouldn’t hurt them.

My two cats used to be scared of it, but now they only budge from the sunshine when the Roomba actuallly touches them.

About the only danger I can see - if you can call it that - is that it doesn’t take much strength or dexterity to pull off the dirt reservoir or whatever you want to call it. A toddler could easily manage it, assuming they knew it was there. But unless your kid’s inclined to eat dust bunnies, the worst that would happen is you’d have a pile of dirt on the floor (and your kid, and the wall, and…)

Not visible in that photo (he’d already bolted for the upper floors): Eddy.

The cats are settling down a bit. They still regard the Roomba with intense distrust but tiny tendrils of curiosity are emerging as well.

Sophie continues to be the bravest of the bunch.

Ted and Pumpkin are willing to check it out from a wary distance.

In fact, Pumpkin has become almost as daring as little old lady Sophie.

ETF, let me be the first to demand that you video tape your pride’s reaction to the roomba and post it to youtube.

Are you kidding? If I ever buy a Roomba I plan to borrow a couple of cats just to see the antics. Now what does that say about me?

That’s so flippin’ cute.

the roomba has a whisk thing that spins and whisks the dirt along the walls and such. i don’t have big rugs, just one small mat rug at the front door. the roomba did a fine job on it and i’m sure it had fun knocking it around 'cause it was no where near where it was when i left.

the nifty thing is it will bump cat toys out from under things. sometimes it will eat them as well.

it is very cool to be out of the house while your roomba is taking care of dirt.

it is a very gentle bump when it bumps into you.
