Only after posting does my explanation appear to be too vague - it implies the ice cream, whereas a proper amount should’ve been specified.
A single scoop will do, although for less foam-slurping you may opt for slightly less than a scoop.

A&W and Mug made me swear off root beer for years until I discovered IBC.
But, folks, I’m here to tell you that NOTHING beats a just-below-room-temperature serving of Henry Weinhard’s (don’t let their pisswater alcoholic beverages fool you!)
And we might as well avail ourselves of this site
I had just finished a root beer float when I saw this thread! Unfortunately, due to my bypass surgery the only kind of float I can have is made with No Sugar Added ice cream (I’m using Edy’s Vanilla) and Diet A&W root beer. The ice cream gets that lovely crispiness around the edges like real ice cream, but then it gets too icy if you leave it too long. You made me sad for the old days, but you know, it tastes better than no root beer float as all, so I’ll have to be happy with what I can have!
I didn’t mean to not respond to this, but I have weird social anxiety - even on message boards, and it takes me a bit to respond to a compliment sometimes.
And so, after much thought, I’ve mustered up the courage to say:
Thanks. :o
