Root canal question

How bad of a slip-up is it when the endodontist misses a canal in a root canal procedure? I eventually had to have the tooth pulled. Should I ask for a refund?

I had a root canal and the tooth had one more canal than normal. The dentist caught it and it was fine, but I was suprised he didn’t see it on the xray. He saw it only once he started filing out the pulp. So I guess it is possible to miss them if you’re not extra careful

I’d ask for a refund, but good luck gettig it. I guess it’d depend on how long it’s been since you had the root canal.

I had an endodontist say (months afterward, when I went in because the tooth still hurt) that perhaps they might have missed a canal. So it’s apparently not uncommon.

However, rather than offering me a refund, they wanted to charge me to do the whole fucking thing again. Not only that, but the charge was HIGHER because they had to do more work.

I said no thanks… and the tooth eventually (mostly) settled down.

I also had a dentist miss the canal and drill into a neighboring root, causing me to need two root canals and, ultimately, three crowns.

I should have sued or something but I was young and didn’t realize how badly he screwed up until I went to a different dentist who saw how bad it was in X-Rays.

I think you should get a refund.

I remember from the root canal I had earlier this year signing a document that said, in essence, “root canals are tricky, yours might not work, we might miss something, and if we do, too bad.”

Whatever the cause, the root canal I had didn’t take, so I wound up (because I was simply sick and tired of dealing with the whole thing) having that tooth extracted. Cheaper and much more straightforward.

Assuming the tooth had the normal number of canals for that type of tooth, you should get a refund. The procedure wasn’t done properly, and you did not benefit from it. If you don’t get a refund, you might want to sue in small claims court.
