Rootbeer: America vs. the world?

Instant migraine. Smeared it on a bagel once and, while the taste wasn’t offensive, the ice-cold steel bar smashing through my temples really put me off the stuff.

Pure hazelnut butter without the evil chocolate sounds absolutely fan-freakin-tastic alongside a frosty mug of root beer.

I first had root beer in Connecticut, I thought it tasted foul, not unlike cough medicine
I first had Sam Adams beer in Michigan, same thoughts
I first had sarsparilla also in Michigan, not bad at all but not as good as dandelion & burdock

For the record I love peanut butter but not with jam/jelly. Just spread on bread and sprinkle with salt

Look for Cashew Butter in the stores you go to. It is an incredible product.

Terrifel, awesome!

My daughter got me some for father’s day last year. Good choice!

We used to go to an organic grocery store where you could select a bunch of nuts and use a “buttering machine” to make your own fresh peanut butter, cashew butter, almond butter, or whatever. Yum.

Sorry, missed that before. Dad’s was great, a relic of my childhood.

I agree that there are lots of different root-beer “flavors.” Of the two brands here, Mirinda is very sweet, A&W much less so, but only in the can. We have two A&W restaurants that I know of – one in Siam Square, another way down Sukhumvit Road – and what you get there seems much sweeter. Used to be more A&Ws, but they closed down.

My dad insisted on Masons root beer. The rootbeer float is weak next to the Vernors Ice Cream Float. Root beer is horrible.

Dad, you suck. Root beer is good. You are wrong.

As a related note, you’re wrong a lot. You should be used to that by now, right?

No mention of Sprecher’s? (I’ve never had it, but have heard good things about it)

Local drive in (with roller-skaing waitresses) makes its own - pretty good (a lot less carbonated than most commercial

Baumeister is pretty good also.

(Not a huge RB fan, except for in floats)

Please? Sig line?

I swung by Cost Plus World Market yesterday looking for Virgil’s because of this thread. They didn’t have any, but they did have six-packs of Bulldog. I forgot to try some last night, but I cracked open a chill bottle just now, and this stuff is just too delicious.

Let’s leave your deviant sexual issues out of this perfectly delicious root beer thread.

Cost Plus usually only has the small metal kegs of Virgil’s. I have found 4-packs of the bottled stuff at Albertson’s supermarket, if you have that near you.

Please, be my guest. I am always happy to promote interest in the rhizozymurgical sciences.

Jump over to the Food Network site. IIRC, Alton Brown did an ep of Good Eats that included making your own ___nut butter.

I’d include a link, but I’m on a tight schedule right now.

Oh yeah. I love roller-ska!
