Well, I thought I had seen the last of the worthless “software” known as “spyshredder”! Here is my story-I came home and logged on one night-to find my desktop horribly screwed up-and the popup saying I had been infected with malware. I went through all of the usual stuff with McAfee, to see what happened-and then the spyshreSo I called the CC company again-and I’m asking for another refindder popped up. I tried it-and was foolish enough to pay for it! It did nothing, and I send the next few hours getting rid of it. I requested a refund-which they confirmed-and then, I went so far as to call my CC card company-and told them of this fraud. Now I get my statement-they processed a credit-then pasted a charge back on! So now, I called the bank, and told them -they will dispute the charge, meanwhile I emailed their billing service-and requested another credit.
To all of you-“SPYSHREDDER” is nothing but a fraud-NEVER install this crap on your PC. Question: can I sue these crooks? It appears to be a UK company-but billing from a service in California
I hate malware 9malicious software) almost as much as I hate McAfee 9malicious antivirus software). I don’t know what a “refindder” is 9unless it means “re-finder”) but I don’t see why you paid for it 9unless it was an accident).
GAH! A fly-by-night spyware “remover” and McAfee? You have my sympathies, ralph.
By way of advice, let me be the first to say: AVG, Spybot, Ad-Aware. Dollars to donuts one of the latter two will remove your old spyware “remover” for you.
Obviously a cut’n’paste problem; read it this way:
“I went through all of the usual stuff with McAfee, to see what happened-and then the spyshreder popped up. I tried it-and was foolish enough to pay for it! The bolded text was removed from the middle of the offending sentence. And, obviously, it ain’t “malware,” it’s just really bad commercial software. Pretty much the same thing as McAfee, only worse.
If I’m reading this correctly, you got a popup ad for Spyshredder out of nowhere after your computer was infected? It sounds like it is indeed malware, or at least the same company is writing malware to advertise their “product”.
