Probably about as much chance as you ending your habit of shitting in every thread in which the concept comes up, ya cranky old bastard. Please wipe your ass, pull up your pants and go find somewhere else to drop your load.
The defendant was spending hundreds of dollars a day on commisary and passing it around to everyone in the jail with him. In part to ward off any “jailhouse justice” in which fellow inmates might wish to participate. Since the government froze his assets relating to his other case, that behavior has stopped. But the prick is very smart and quite manipulative so I’m sure he’ll survive in prison.
Whoa, I’ve been Nietzche’d. Do you think the abyss can still look into me if I hide behind a tree, and peek out at the abyss? Or maybe I could stand real far away and look into the abyss through binoculars. Or hide around the corner and use a mirror on a stick. That might work.
Hey, jerk! I’m not the one being a jerk. That lovely mantle would belong to the people who blithely toss out the “here’s hoping they get to be the victims of a vicious crime too” comments.
Oh, and I’m not illegitimate. Your opinions, though, certainly seem to qualify for that lofty state.
Oh, wow. And you accuse me of taking a dump in the thread?
Yeah, heaven forbid that someone in the custody of the state be protected from vigilantism–and especially even before he got convicted of the crime for which he was being tried. But, hey, I guess he’s thrilled that someone who evidently believes in vigilante “justice” didn’t actually get to decide his fate.
Maybe you should “wipe your ass, pull up your pants, and go find somewhere” to learn that the idea is for those of us in a law-abiding society to be better than the scum we condemn.
By the way, have you ever been falsely accused of a crime? I have and I’m very glad that the justice system worked the way it’s supposed to work. I’m even more glad that there weren’t any vigilante loving jerks involved in deciding my fate.
I think it’s partially because the false memories of abuse also sometimes do not surface until adulthood. Note: I’m not saying people don’t come forward with valid complaints years after the fact, just that at that point it becomes one person’s world against another with absolutely no evidence, and the false memory issue is not at all uncommon.
Prison rape is wrong. Sometimes, though, it’s really hard to not wish for vigilante justice. Life seems so unfair.
Isn’t there any way to make this asshole get what he really deserves, without becoming a brute myself, in the process? No, I guess not. But it is damn frustrating.
Here’s the part that I think makes this guy so very special:
OK, so he bilks Medicare of $17 million, then turns around and tries to use the money to buy his way out of multiple child-rape charges. And then the prosecutors are still undecided about something:
Let me suggest the answer is “yes,” and the prosecutors’ added expense can be paid from the $17 mil he stole in the first place. Why? Just to show him they can.
I agree with the “let’s stop wishing crimes being visited on the monster in prison” folks, but anything that can be legally done to crush the bastard … well, just keep hauling his ass into court for the next several years. He thought his money and position bought him the lives of little boys. Strip him of his money and power and run him continuously through the legal meatgrinder. Make that his life.
I think the “time spent” pursuing the extra charges might be a consideration too. He’s already sentenced to life in prison on the federal charges so, practically, what would be the point of pursuing any other prison time on the sexual charges?
I do hope there’s a legal pursuit to get the fraud money back though, fraud being the charge.
Actually this trial was about sexual charges, state, not federal. I imagine some of these other charges the state may not have as good a case for, and this trial was complicated enough as is.
The feds are pursuing the fraud charges, and the investigation is ongoing. We heard about some of it as it related to the case we tried. The agent in charge of the fraud case was a special agent for the department of health and human services. Didn’t know they had a HHS cops, but she has a gun and a badge and everything. She used to work for the FBI, as a paralegal.
Another agent on the case works for the postal inspector. Aparently the government thought it would be a good idea to take some postal employees and give them guns
Because of this (italicized text) from the linked article:
“He still faces separate state charges of sexual battery of a minor, possessing child pornography and intimidating witnesses from his jail cell. He also faces a federal charge related to sexual abuse of a minor. (emphasis mine)”,
I thought the separate charges he’d been convicted of were somehow federal. The article wasn’t clear.
But, regardless, he’s in jail for what he did and fraud charges are being pursued. I hope the outcome is full restitution of the funds that it can be proven he stole and not some “nominal” fine.
The only point would be, as I said, to haul his butt into court to keep convicting him over and over and over again. It would be worth the money spent just to make him hear the word “Guilty!” on each and every charge. It’s The People telling him, “Your money means dick, pal. We haven’t forgotten what you did.” And I wouldn’t ordinarily feel this way except that he unabashedly tried to BUY his way out of trouble – with stolen money!
I have hesitated from posting to this thread as those who abuse children are people I pray for everyday. I know how hard it is to forgive those who do it as It happened to me and my siblings when I was a child but I must tell you this. If you are prepared to pass judgment on those who commit these vile and heinous acts be prepared to be the one who passes the judgment.I can see you were, but don’t let it eat you alive. Once upon a time a purchased a shotgun, sawed it off and told my mother to simply wake me in the night and I would do the deed with all of its implications. I had lost myself in hatred and was prepared to take a life in the most base of ways and suffer any and all consequences for doing so. Such is hate in all its glory. I sold my soul for the acts of another, acts over which I had no control. It took me 30 years to change after these events and many suffered my wrath along the way. Only He brought me the peace to walk this earth and to change my ways. Don’t let the hate consume you. Believe me, once you let hate take you it will hold you, lie to you and give you the comfort that you seek when sleep won’t come. Put it away. It is the lie of Satan. His world is hate, don’t let it be yours.(sorry for the Satan reference, but he is the father all lies and evil)OM
It seems, on the evidence, that the guy’s a former victim of child abuse, and I say we allow his testimony on the subject without the need to purge it of all references to the Dreaded R-Word. backatcha
I mean, I realize we’re only allowed to mention rlg**n in the same thread as child abuse when we’re levelling accusations at priests and the hierarchy that enables them, but perhaps **Omegaman ** hasn’t checked the rulebook lately.
Eh, I’m a victim of child abuse too, you won’t see me bringing my atheism into it. Psychology got me over it instead. No shotguns needed. No death/abuse wishing either.
I don’t really give a fuck if it really belongs here or not, that was just me getting a dig in at the oh-my-fucking-god-earnest Train Preacher nature of Omega’s post, not junior modding. I though even quoting the “(if you must)” bit would give it away.So it was all about the snarking.
