Where can I find information on using a router’s hardware firewall? I think this is done by choosing which port numbers are enabled versus disabled, but where to start, how to choose?
When I do a web search on “router faq” it appears the hits are all specific to a particular brand and model of router. I haven’t found one for mine in particular. In half an hour of digging I found nothing useful.
My router works, but the firewall is disabled. I know how to turn the different ports on and off, but I don’t know how to choose which ones are which.
FWIW I use satellite broadband, and the primary function of the router is to do NAT because my satellite “modem” insists on being a DHCP host and other components of my home network cannot function as DHCP clients (so my LAN uses fixed IP addresses). But I think it’d be nice to take advantage of its firewall capabilities, as long as it is just sitting there!
