He weighed in at eight pounds six ounces, so I’m going with “Bonnie Prince Porky.”
My twitter feed has collapsed under the weight of people posting Blackadder videos
Well done to the following! :
Yup, for the middle name!
1 out of 4 ain’t bad
Yup for the middle name.
Did no one go for “Louis”?
I was surprised to see Alexander in the mix, to me it seems more of a Greek name than British. Also a bit odd to have only three names. Maybe the Louis is a tip of William’s hand- could he be planning to be King Louis?
How boring. So yet another King George? Can’t these people pick another less used King’s name? They’ve run George into the ground. At least use Edward or James.
Anyway, good luck. I’ll be dead and buried long, long, long before this kid is king sixty years from now.
I was right, then. He’ll be George VII, right?
Well, Prince Philip was born in Greece, and his paternal grandfather was King George I of Greece, who was assassinated 100 years ago in 1913. (Georg was just one of his rather German given names, though.) He was killed before Prince Philip was born, so I doubt if there’s a strong connection; certainly not as strong as the six reigning Georges of the UK, but I’m sure the Greek connection is not unknown to the royals.
Alexander is etymologically Greek, but that’s about it—he was a popular literary hero in the Middle Ages, which is probably where the Scots picked up the name.
Over in the “It’s happening!” royal baby thread, I posted this:
Close, but no cigar.
Not necessarily. I wouldn’t be shocked if Charles took George VII as his royal name.
It might be under consideration. Wikipedia:
The royals really love the name George. But, it’s their choice.
I can’t see the public accepting Prince Charles as King George VII. It would just be silly. He’s been called Charles for almost 65 years in the press and on tv. I remember him as the dashing single prince years before he married Diana. Hard to believe that in the 70’s he used to be just as popular as William. Charles was a military pilot too.
No, it isn’t. They have to clear it here first.
Well, there’s a snowball’s-chance-in-purgatory he might opt for Alexander IV or Louis I.
Maybe they won’t call him George. I hope not - besides being so old fashioned, you know he’ll end up “Georgie”. He’ll be much better off if they call him Alexander or even Louis.
They could use one of the Scottish diminutives for George: Dod or Doddie. Hmmm, maybe not. Sandy for Alexander would be good though.
Why couldn’t it be George Alexander Louis…of Ulm?
That would be too preciousssssss.
