Leaving for Florida on Saturday and going on a cruise on the 1st of July. Anyone care to share any good and bad thoughts or comments on a cruise on the Majest of the Seas? Any tips or things I should know before I go? Thanks!
I’ve cruised on the Sovereign of the Seas which I think is the sister ship.
Tips? Let’s see, it you plan on drinking beer on board, buy some (cans only) in Miami and pack it in your carry-on. That way you can ice it down in your cabin (ask the steward for an extra ice-bucket) and bring them up to the pool. A lot cheaper than three bucks a can for Bud.
Unless you really want to, avoid all the fruity tropical drinks in the souvenir glasses that every other person will offer you once you board the ship. They run about six-seven dollars a piece.
They will be taking your picture every time you turn around and displaying them in the photo gallery. Resist the urge to buy every picture. If you wait until the end of the cruise and select just the ones you really want, it’s much cheaper.
Pack enough things in your carry-on to get you through dinner on the first night. You can’t guarantee your luggage will arrive before then.
Unless you’re doing the new feature where all tips are part of the price package, put tip money aside before the cruise in envelopes. It saves digging for change later.
Looking at the RCCL site, you’re doing the 4-day Bahama thing. In Nassau, you should definitely check out the straw market if you’re into the touristy thing, but I would recommend taking a water taxi over to Paradise Island and the huge casino there. Even if you don’t gamble, there’s plenty to do and see over there.
Cococay? A day at the beach. Nothing overly special.
While in Key West, I would look into the kayak tours of the mangrove swamps. We did one and it was a blast.
Most importantly, have a blast. And don’t miss the midnight buffet (usually after formal night), it’s a sight to behold.
The Majesty of the Seas is the sister ship of The Monarch of the Seas. You have picked a nice ship. Is this your first cruise? If so, it’s possible that this ship could spoil you for future cruises. Royal Caribbean knows how to properly treat passengers. I believe the crew to guest ratio is something like 1:2.
Tip #1 - When checking in, ask for an upgrade. Since this is off-season for cruising, it’s possible that some of the nicer cabins will be empty.
Tip #2 - If you haven’t already chosen a seating time for meals, choose the later one. When you are in port you won’t want to hurry back for dinner.
Tip #3 - Have your valuables locked up in the ship’s safe.
Tip #4 - Don’t try to do every activity that is scheduled, you will need a vacation from your vacation when you get home.
And I will second what Why A Duck said about packing some essentials in your carry-on. Don’t forget to pack your bathing suit in there too.
