Has anyone here used or heard about this new sleep drug? I’m wanting to ask my doctor about it. I’m currently taking ambien as needed, but really don’t want to stay on that too much longer. I like it too much, and that kind of makes me nervous. Rozerem is supposed to have a really low potential for abuse and dependency. I’m just wondering if it works as well as the hype (aside from the stupid commercial, that is).
I just started taking Rozerem. So far, it seems to help, and it doesn’t have any side-effects that I’ve noticed. I hate the druggy hangover feeling that I get from most sleep aids, and Rozerem doesn’t give me any morning-after residue.
My doctor gave me a sample today. I’ll let you know how it goes. I’ve been on Ambien, Halcyon and Restoril. Ambien works very quickly for me but I don’t get a full night’s sleep with it. After about 5 hours, I’m wide awake. Halcyon works pretty well but I’m afraid of it’s addiction potential. Restoril didn’t work for me at all.
I’d be interested in hearing an update from pinkfreud and/or LorieSmurf.
Since I wrote the OP, I have gotten a prescription for Rozerem. It works pretty well. It doesn’t give me that drugged “i gotta go to bed before I pass out” feeling. The effect is “I’m really really really tired and have to go to bed”. So far, totally not addicting like I imagine ambien could easily be.
I tried it last night and it was certainly different than any other sleep-aid that I’ve taken. I woke up about every hour and each time I did, I couldn’t believe that I’d only been asleep an hour. It was as if time had slowed down. I’ll give it another try tonight but so far I’d say that I prefer Ambien.
I grew up in Tulsa, BTW.
I’ve taken Rozerem a couple of times (samples from the doc). I understood the big selling point to be that it’s something you don’t need to take every night, so you can take it just on those nights you can’t sleep. I don’t know that I can’t sleep until I’ve tried for 20-30 minutes, but even so, I’ve found that it still takes me an hour to go to sleep after I’ve taken the pill, and more often than not, I wake up 20-30 minutes later and can’t go *back *to sleep. By then I’m a couple hours into the night already and I wouldn’t want to take another pill, so insomnia wins and I’m watching a 1939 dubbed-in-English film on TCM again. In a nutshell – I have been less than impressed with Rozerem. I hope your experience is better.
I’m afraid my initial good impression of Rozerem has deteriorated. It seems to be less and less effective for me, and once my free samples are gone, I don’t think I will fill my prescription. Too expensive for the small effect. I’m beginning to think my perception that this stuff helped was just placebo hopefulness.
I took it again last night and I don’t think it did much for me. It might help if your problem is getting to sleeping. It doesn’t seem to do much as far as helping you stay asleep.
