Well, some time ago in my attempts to persuade my pal RTFirefly to get XM Radio (said company I have no fiduciary responsibility to) he fended me off with the mighty “I need traffic and weather…it ain’t-a gonna give me that.”
Fiendishly effective answer, RT…
But not anymore…
Starting Feb 1 your needs are filled, RT.

Yes. Join us.
The world will be a much, much, much better place when Morning Radio shows are no more.
More music, less talk, says I. Well, unless you’re listening to talk radio.
Which we cool kids have in the XM-Talk section.
Did I mention that all the music channels are going commercial free on Feb 1 as well?
NO MORE PAID LAUGHING GUYS! Woo!
Based on their sample traffic clip, JC, XM’s even worse than the stations whose traffic coverage I already deride. In Maryland, XM talked about the Beltway, I-270, I-95, and the B-W. Nothing more.
The major DC-area stations, who have to cover too much ground to hit anything besides the major arteries, will at least go beyond that to mention the existence of US 50 and US 301/Md. 5.
I’m sticking to the local Southern Maryland station (WSMD, 98.3) for info about Route 4, because I’m not likely to find it anywhere else. They also provide traffic info on many other Southern Maryland roads that the big boys pay no attention to. By concentrating on part of the area, they actually manage to serve that area.
