Hawking is a good sport.
I also don’t understand the quantum king. Is the rule that you can’t actually attack the king still in place or something? If so, then how do you resolve its quantum state? If you can attack, why not attack one side and force it? Fifty percent chance you win, and you otherwise know where the king actually is.
Hence, I think that Hawking let him win.
