While I’ve seen his case actually happen in other universities, what are the chances that an average kid can enter NDU between years if he didn’t pass the entrace test in the first place?
as the movie shows, he transferred in from a junior college. That is normally an easier way to get into most schools.
What the movie left out was he started junior college at age 24. Before that he spent 2 years in the Navy and also worked a few jobs.
But he really did sack the Georgia Tech QB to end the game. That seems like a made up thing for the movie but it was not.
A true story then. Didn’t know that. Thanks.
Was the kindly black janitor real? the guy who let him sleep in the gym building?
Not real in the conventional sense because he was magical.
Holy Cross Junior College still exists and remains the ‘feeder system’ for students who can’t make ND’s initial entrance standards or didn’t make ND’s admissions ‘ratio’ of so many students from each area. Attending HCJC, or HCC (they’ve since dropped the “Junior” is still not a guarantee you can transfer in to ND, but if you attend HCC and are in the top 10% of your class, every effort is made to find you a spot at ND, particularly if you are a legacy student whose parent or parents attended ND. It provides the same function for St. Mary’s College, the women’s college affiliated with ND.
Interestingly enough, before they tore down Holy Cross residence hall on the ND campus, HCC resident students would often be housed there in anticipation of their eventual acceptance into the university.
Janitor guy was a “composite” character who took the place of several people who helped Rudy in real life.
