Rugby World Cup 2015

Well, that’s it i think.

Edit: Wow, Carter actually missed one! Maybe the tide is turning.

Edit 2: How is that an Aussie knock-on? It was knocked out by the New Zealand hand.

I can’t see how the Aussies get a win now. I can’t see them scoring three unopposed tries.

Kiwi Yellow card and Aussie try!!

Fair yellow that. And a good try. Aus need another before Smith comes back though.

Well if you are going to give Australia hope then that’s a very good way to do it. Silly, silly yellow.

Great try!

Hmm. Game back on.

That’s about the only thing Kuridrani has done all day.

Dan Carter’s kicks to touch is like he has a cheatcode.

Fucking hell Dan Carter is good.

…and now a Drop goal.

That’s surely it now. They had a shot when a converted try would tie up the score, but there’s no way they can score twice.

That happened because Aus had to chase the game. This game was lost in the first 45 mins. You can’t spot an international team an 18 point lead and expect to win, let alone these All Blacks.

Good game and good result (from my perspective ).

The right result, in the view of this neutral. Aus only got back into the game due to the yellow card and never looked like scoring a try against a full strength NZ. They’re definitely the best side in the world, the record over a prolonged period shows that and they played good rugby, particularly in the knock out phases.

It’s been a good tournament. Japan-SA still the best game of the tournament mind.

Well done to the Kiwis. The All Blacks were the best team in the tournament, and it showed today. They were simply better than the Wallabies.

I’m pretty happy with the Aussie performance overall in this tournament, especially given how bad the last few years have been. A year ago, I wouldn’t have backed Australia to get past the quarter-finals. If you had told me, back then, that the Wallabies would get beaten by the All Blacks in the final, I would have taken that without hesitation.

Yes, Cheika has done an amazing job for the Wallabies. They looked awful a year ago.

I like Michael Chieka. He and Steve Hansen always seem more like a couple of blokes arguing the footy at the bar at the RSA than successful international coaches.

Sonny Bill Williams sure knew how to finish the whole thing off.

I thought it was a decent game for the neutral, after a bit of a tight opening quarter no doubt caused by nerves. To this relatively uneducated spectator, I thought Nigel Owens refereed extremely well. Very little in the way of controversy even for the most biased supporters, I would think.

Carter’s drop goal was absolutely sublime. A fitting sign off for him. We still wait on McCaw, but presumably he will follow. It seems like he is being extremely thoughtful in delaying his announcement until after the celebrations have died down. Or perhaps he wants the full attention of everyone without it getting lost in the celebrations!

The Guardian has a brilliantly funny piece on how Sonny Bill has now ruined competitive sport forever here..
