Alexandria is a “sinking” city. There’s just too much moisture all over the older ruins for anything like scrolls to have survived.
There was a king in the fertile crescent who envied the LoA and had a lot of its texts copied for his library. I keep hoping that someday his library will be discovered.
Petra also looked hopeful for a site that contain a lot of well preserved texts. But so far the best that have been found are charred scrolls under a collapsed church wall. Not a whole lot that can be recovered.
For recovered scrolls, you need a very dry place that hasn’t had a lot of humans churning stuff up for the last couple thousand years.
There has been a private library found at Pompeii. Small, mostly duplicates of known texts so far though.
