Hi there,
I gather there is a rule of thumb for avg. water consumption of a person in a household (e.g. when you calculate water supply for an apartment block or so)
anybody?
thx

According to this page, the national average residential water usage is 60-70 gallons per person per day.
Wow !!
There was an article in the UK’s Telegraph newspaper this Saturday - UK consumption per person is 33-35 gallons a day; the suggestion was that we Brits are very wasteful compared to Germany’s 27.5 and Denmark’s 22 gallons per person per day. But hey you put us in the shade (if you’ll excuse the mixed metaphor).
True but water doesn’t get “consumed” in the same way that other things do. It almost always still there in some form and completely recycled. Most water is just lightly polluted as it flows through the home. Leaving the water running while you brush your teeth is labeled as wasteful by many but it isn’t as if you are actually using that water. You are merely cycling it.
Our septic system is designed for 110 gallons per day per person. I’ve also heard our water district quote that as the amount used per person. How true that is, I don’t know, but if you count car washing and laundry in with the showers and toilet use, I can see 110 being close to accurate.
