Thanks, I’ll try it.
:slight resurrection:
On the one hand, yay. On the other, what happened to the practice of packaging whatever the current Mario game is with whatever the current Nintendo system is? I don’t want effin’ Wii Sports.
Nintendo hasn’t done that in almost 20 years grandpa.
The N64 came with SM64. That wasn’t 20 years ago was it? I sure as hell hope not because I’m going to want to know where a few of those years went.
Ummm, mine didn’t.
None of that did. Nintendo stopped doing that in 1991 with Super Mario World. Super Mario 64 was one of only two games available at the N64’s launch (Pilotwings 64 was the other). So it only seemed like it was packed in with the system.
Mine did.
EDIT: Damn. Foiled again.
It did?
I’m almost positive my N64 came with Mario 64. It also came with Star Wars Racer and Star Wars somethingorother. Rogue Squadron or something? I want to say I got Starfox in the deal too. I don’t remember buying any of those, and I know I would not have bought the Star Wars games. I wouldn’t have bought the console at all if it didn’t come bundled with Mario.
Got it at a Price Club or Costco’s or someplace like that, most likely a year or more after the console was released. Around '99 or 2000 I think.
The N64 came out in 1996, on the same day as Quake. You probably picked up a retailer’s bundle, which isn’t the same thing.
On the other hand my brother got a Gamecube with a copy of Pokemon: Whatever The Hell the Gamecube One Was. So it wasn’t like they completely skipped the concept of pack ins between the SNES and Wii.
And I have to eat my words here. I figured Nintendo wouldn’t go for this until November for the maximum holiday sales buzz but I guess they want to give it some time to build.
I got one on the first day and it was definitely bundled with SM64.
In the US or UK? I got one very close to launch too, and I remember being pissed that they weren’t doing a bundle.
As did I and my copy of SM64 came separate. Actually, I got SM64 a few days before I got the system because Nintendo put the games on sale a few days before the system launched.
But there was no bundle, I’m sure. The only bundle was a Pokemon one created in the waning days of the system for Toys R Us.
That may have been the only game bundle, but maybe a year or two after the N64 was released there was a special bundle that came with an extra, purple see-through, controller.
Edit: Actually, it maybe not have been an extra controller, it might jsut have been that the one it came with was purple.
Well, he was clearly talking about game bundles. And a new color for the controller isn’t exactly any kind of bundle anyway.
No, it was definitely an official Nintendo game bundle. One controller and SM64 (plus the system and power cable, of course).
I got it at EB and they were giving away a free off-brand (MadCatz, I think) Controller Pak too.
Was the game inside the N64 box or did it come separately in its own packaging?
In the box. IIRC, there was a picture of 64ized Mario’s head on the corner of the box and it said “Mario 64 included!” or something like that, too.
