Rumor: Wii price cut in October

I looked for that and asked around for that and was universally told that Nintendo wasn’t doing it.

We’re never going to be able to convince you that such a bundle never existed are we?

I don’t think the price drop is going to boost Wii sales. I think the novelty is wearing off and most people that ever wanted to try one have one. I think they have reached, or will soon reach, a plateu. The hardware has done everything it can. Nothing new to be seen there. In fact, I’d say the control scheme, while novel, is really showing it’s limitations and flaws now that people have gotten over Wii Sports.

The 360 and PS3 both have major new control schemes coming out and are immensely upgradeable compared to the wii. They will be around much longer and will remain relevant much longer than the Wii.

I’m betting on a Wii2 within the next 1.5-2 years. I’m betting 3602 and PS32 hit the same time the Wii 3 does.

The Wii has outsold the PS3 and Xbox 360 consistently over the last three years. All this talk of novelties and fads is really missing the point. There are nearly as many Wii Balance Boards in US homes as there are PS3 systems.

As for hardware, software and control limitations, the same could be said of any of the three systems. But with the number and variety of games Nintendo has on tap for the future, I’d say that’s poppycock. Just as I would for either of the other two systems. 2010 is packed.

No, they really don’t. The PS3 “Wand” is basically just a Sony-branded Wiimote and Nunchuk that, if possible, looks even more like a dildo than a Wiimote in a controller glove. As for Natal, the thing is all concept at this point. We have no idea what it can really do or when it might even be available.

While it’s possible a Wii2 could launch in late 2011, there’s no way the Xbox 720 and PS4 have at least another eight years in them. Because that’s how far away the Wii3 is (at a minimum) and that’s only if the Wii2 launches in late 2011 and is only as powerful as the Xbox 360/PS3.

I’m guessing that even if there is a Wii2 in 1.5-2 years, it will pretty much just be a WiiHD. 100% backwards compatible, maybe some up-converting (if possible,) of old games, but finally the ability to have graphics comparable to at least the 360, maybe the PS3 (though it’s funny that often times 360 games look better…I think it’s because it’s harder to program the good graphics for a PS3?)

So in two years the Wii will get a ton of ports of current games on the 360 and PS3 that most of the people who really wanted to play them already will have, so they won’t sell well.

I don’t see Nintendo or their fans caring enough about HD to make WiiHD. Sure, it’ll probably support HD, but that won’t be the selling point. Wii2 (if they call it that, which is actually doubtful), will probably be horsepower upgrades, a larger hard drive, and ergonomic and motion-sensing upgrades to the controls. One thing I’d like to see would be more utilization of something like the Classic Controller, so developers aren’t scared off after sitting around for a few minutes thinking, “how are we going to make this work with the Wiimote?” I also wish they would make a move toward the media/family-entertainment center concept and add DVD support, but that seems doubtful. I’ll still get one I’m sure. Nintendo lost me with the Gamecube but won me back with the Wii. I doubt I’ll ever switch brands again unless maybe I pick up a 360 on a whim one day a few years down there road when they’re 35 bucks.

Wii hardware ranked No. 1 at Amazon.com with a 1,700% increase in sales.

On the topic of price drops, in two weeks they’ll be releasing a Wii Sports Resort Bundle with an extra MotionPlus for only 10 dollars more. Considering that a Motion Plus is normally $25 and you pretty much need two to play Wii Sports Resort, it’s a pretty great deal for anyone thinking of buying it.

Not by saying “there was no bundle!”

So linking to pictures of the bundleless system box don’t count? I can’t prove a negative you know.

How about a link to an article talking about the system’s launch with no mention of a bundle? http://ign64.ign.com/articles/060/060307p1.html

i will pray to god every night that they call it the WiiWii

Hah!

I hope they get away from the Wii name altogether. It had a great codename: the Revolution. I’m used to the name Wii now but god damn I hated it at first.

I still hate the name Wii and refer to it as the Revolution whenever I can.

Yes, that would do it. I hate it when you’re right.

Revolution sounds like a Sega console, not a Nintendo one. I liked the N64 codename better: Project Reality (Ultra 64 was the second codename).

I think it’s inevitable that they re-release the console with a few slight improvements. This seems to be Nintendo’s new business model - from “Mario Galaxy 2*” to “Wii Sports…uhhh…resort?” to “Wii Fit…uhh…gee…hmm…Plus” to the DSi to the repackaging of gamecube games as Wii games.

It’s really just pathetic how far the company has fallen.

Huh? You’re comparing game sequels to re-releasing a console with a few slight improvements? When have they ever re-released a console (not a handheld) with a few slight improvements? That late NES that looked kind of like a SNES that they barely advertised and only 7 people bought?

Yes, really. What the heck are you talking about, dude?

Actually there’s quite a few consoles that got the slight redesign late in it’s life. Atari 2600, NES, Genesis, and all three Playstations did it. Depending on when the change over occurs it can drag things out slightly (Atari, NES, and PS1) or a major boost (Genesis, PS2, and PS3).

ETA: I think that was supposed to be some kind of crack about sequels which when it comes to the gaming industry calling Nintendo out on it is missing the forest through the trees.

I’m pretty sure that guy was knocking Nintendo exclusively. And I don’t think the redesigned NES was very popular in the US, though I only base that on the fact that I mentioned it awhile and nobody knew wtf I was talking about. Personally, I only ever saw pictures of it in Nintendo Power. I’ve never actually seen one.

From thisto this, in case you’re not familiar.
