Rumour has it that the layoff list is history.

A co-worker told me about the Christmas party today, which was last Friday and I missed because I was up in Washington. He said that the vice president of our division announced that the layoff list is no more. Fifteen months ago I was told that I was on it (primarily because everyone knows how much I want to move, and by being laid off instead of quitting I can collect the severence package and unemployment – besides, if I go, then someone else doesn’t have to). But now it seems that the company has decided to retain the several people in my department who were on the list.

That means that I’m stuck for the foreseeable future. I guess I’ll have to redouble my previous efforts to have a remote office approved. (Fat chance!)

I still think I’ll look to buy a house in northern Washington. And of course I’ll need to make more of an effort to find employment up there so that I can have a job when I move.

Careful with that spelling there Johnny, they might revoke your passport.

Normally, I congratulate people when they don’t get fired after all. But in this case, it sucks, weirdly enough.

Can’t you shag your bosses wife to speed things up or something?
