“You know I just came in from Baghdad, and there are now 100 newspapers in the free press in Iraq – in the free Iraq – where people are able to say whatever they wish , people are debating, people are discussing, something they had not done for decades,” he said.

There is no free press in Iraq.
Paul Bremer has ordered his legal department in Baghdad to draw up rules for press censorship. A joke, I concluded, when one of the newly styled Coalition Provisional Authority officials tipped me off last week. But no, it really is true. Two months after “liberating” Iraq, the Anglo- American authorities and their boss Paul Bremer - whose habit of wearing combat boots with a black suit continues to amaze his colleagues - have decided to control the new and free Iraqi press.

You might argue that it’s good that they not print anything inflamatory. But to stifle them from saying it censoeship.
And Rummy says they can say whatever they wish.
Just another day…just another lie.

Just when I’d about given up hope on Rumsfeld, he takes a step in the direction of honesty by calling himself on his own lies :
“People are saying, 'Gee, if X amount (of troops) that you have there now is good, why not double it? Why not triple it? That will be better,”’ he said.
“Truth is, that’s not true. It really isn’t. Our goal is not to create a dependency in Iraq by flooding it with Americans,” Rumsfeld added.
That’s right Rummy, no one is calling for doubling or tripling the force level in Iraq. The assertion is just total bullshit, and Rummy is right for admitting it so promptly. Such prompt candor could mark the beginning of a beautiful trend for the secretary.
