Rumsfeld caught lying (i know, it's nothing new, but i thought you should know)

I knew that.

Thanks for making my head spin.

[sub]Asshole[/sub]

OK, I usually don’t jump in to these things, but…

For fucks sake, milroyj, you have to be kidding. Whether you agree with moveon.org’s motives or not, this is direct clip from “Face the Nation”. This wasn’t manufactured by the website…

Well, that’s easy for you to say.

badda-bing

Dave, My long lost brother. At last I find you.
One wonders at milroyj’s sincerity when he makes comments like these. I think, surely he knows. But if he knows how fucked up that comment was, then [that of which I cannot speak]. If he doesn’t know, then bless his heart and his pointed little head.

And of course, ever since Saddam’s regime was toppled, our servicemen and women have been so much safer, right?

Right?

Damn, I hate it when my eyes roll so far back they smack into my occiput.

Maybe so, but your OP caused this particular shitstorm.

  1. You stated that the Admin. never made a claim of “imminent” threat, and then offered the moveon.org video as evidence.

  2. Taking you on your claim, I was astonished by the first quote, because in it, Rumsfeld never claimed “imminent threat”, so I was a little peeved. Whatever.

  3. Now the story is that, in your OP, you meant “immediate threat”, which the second quote in the video does support.

  4. I guess you win, in a weasely sort of way. Like moving the goals.
    Semantics suck.

For this Administration to claim they never said “imminent threat” is worse than Clinton’s “meaning of is is”. Come on. We know what they said and what they meant and implied and now they are lying. Lying as in “trying to deceive”. The fact that he did not pronounce it correctly and pronounced it “inminent” instead of “ïmminent” does not change the fact in the least. He’s a liar liar pants on fire.

Nice weaseling there.

Sure, i accidentally typed the wrong word in the OP, but i was also assuming that people would actually watch and pay attention to the video themselves and address the main point that i was making, to wit:

Rumsfeld lied.

No question about it, not even a skerrick of a doubt.

Do you get it? My error in the OP exactly that–my error, which i regret. It doesn’t change in the slightest what Rumsfeld said in the video, or what we can read in the transcript of the show. Funny thing, everyone else in this thread managed to pay attention to the video and/or the transcript and work out exactly what the lie was, without selectively quoting only from the first quote and ignoring the second one.

And speaking of moving the goals, who was it that tried to turn this whole thread from the issue of Rumsfeld’s lie to the issue of whether Iraq had been an “imminent” or “immediate” threat to the US? Would that have been you? Thought so.

some of us have been there for quite some time.

[QUOTE]

So you made an error, and I overreacted to it. Let’s just leave it at that. OK?

Good grief, milroyj you´re dense in a cosmical scale, you know that?

So Milroy are you going to admit that Rummy lied or what?

Seriously, why do you say that? I was trying to mke peace.

I guess I am dense. What did I do wrong this time?

For what it may be worth, here’s one person’s perspective. Attribute whatever bias you wish to it:

Your first post in this thread, rather than addressing the OP or point at hand in an meaningful way, was to label it liberal porn. Not only is it an utter waste of your time typing and everyone else’s time who had to read it, it takes away from anything else you say in the thread because of anything else you could have said, you addressed not the issue of Rumsfeld caught lying but the idea that it was somehow liberal porn.

Labeling it liberal porn, btw, seems to me to belittle the entire issue, which is that a politician lied - not about something trivial like, for example, tying his shoes, but about justification for a military action that is still going on.

Instead of labeling things as liberal porn, why not address the actual issue from the start? You might also find people more tolerant of your posts if you bumped the political blinders down a notch or two.

Thanks iampunha for the input.

Does anyone chastize minty green for his liberal (heh) use of the term “Republican porn”?

Another thing, some criticize posters who link to Drudge, but all Drudge does is post inflammatory headlines, but with links to actual newsites. Why shouldn’t I question links to moveon? No news there.

So we have proof here in black-and-white that:

a) Rumsfeld tells lies, and
b) milroyj is incredibly fucking stupid.

Who can honestly say that they find either of the above surprising in any way?

a)has not been proven
b)is a given

Before you criticize a source, it sometimes helps to find out where the source got its material. If moveon.org is getting its info from bushisaliar.com or www.bushistas.com, then I’d say you’re probably safe in arguing source bias. If, however, the article/material is something you also find at the BBC, then source bias is probably not your strongest argument.

I’d have to have a look at specific instances to give an honest opinion of minty green’s use of “republican porn”.

*You’ve done fine work for the Democratic Party, milroyj. Here’s a numbered Swiss bank account and december’s address in the Cayman Islands. He’s looking forward to meeting you.

We want you to cool your heels for awhile and only be an insane conservative asshole on the SDMB when we feel your assistance is absolutely necessary. Your mission has been a complete success and at this point we feel that we can coast to victory on the oil slick of your sinking ship’s rhetoric. Enjoy your stay in the Caymans, and don’t come back unless we contact you or your alternative mission, ensuring that Barbados continues to have a stable supply of Cuban tobacco leaf wrappings, is activated. We’re going to need them come January, 2005.

And hey, lay off the good stuff–you show your real flag every time you’re a few bong hits into the conversation. It’s good enough to deceive the Thumpers, but we have to weave the fabric of a much larger and more conspriatorial plan of action now. Since you’ve been so good to us, though, I’ll let you in on the plan: bombings, attempted plane hijackings, murder or those in the political know, and alteration of records are all in the works. At this point, it all works for us, milroyjl. Stick with the plan and it will all work out for you as well. Defy us, and you’ll wind up wrapped in a carpet at Fort Marcy.*
