Squink - My current frustration level is somewhere between throwing up my hands and screaming “Fuck It!” before walking off into the sunset and trying to add to the chorus of discontent and hopefully making some real change.
On the other hand, sadly I think it’ll take a lot longer than 2008 for this current hang-over to wear off. Of course, depending on how badly Kerry screws up the country with his lib-ruhl agenda could speed things up a little bit.
C’mon, you can’t expect me to be completely devoid of partisan swipes, can you?
You know what is really sad, the lying isn’t even that big of an issue to me really. Yea, it pisses me off and I think there should be some accountability but it bothers me more the way the whole thing was handled in terms of diplomacy, lack of post-Saddam planning, and lastly that they lied about the whole reason for going.
For me, Iraq pushed me near the edge. Deficit spending and the Medicare Presciption Bill got me to look at the Democratic Party’s candidates much closer and really give thought to crossing party lines with my vote. The detention of U.S. citizens in Gitmo without their Constitutional protections didn’t help either. Personally, if they are foreign nationals and possibly terrorists, well I do not get too sympathetic. U.S. citizens? Another story. The opposition to SSM I disagreed with but hey, they are the Conservative Party so it was not a shock. Again, I disagreed with them but I figured ya’ know, moderate voices will prevail and the States would trend towards at least Civil Unions and all would be well in the world. The nail, the last mother fucking nail in the coffin that has sent my vote straight to Kerry and thereby a vote to fire President Bush’s ass was the proposal and support of the Constitutional Amendment. Any fuck-wad that wants to turn the greatest document in the world into a banner for the Christian Coalition and embed discrimination into our national identify can go fuck himself. That was the final straw for me, I hate this cliche but “I have a lot of gay friends” and although we may disagree on a lot of political issues, I know I could never look them in the face honestly or with a clean conscience again if I supported a candidate who wanted to do this.
You’re right, my usage was different. This thread just struck me the wrong way. The OP was “Rumsfeld Lied!” followed by literally 30 replies of fellow travelers agreeing with each other.
Some highlights  :
“OOooooohhhhhh, the “Oh FUCK” expression on his face gives me a warm glow all over”
“That is glorious. Gee-lorious.”
“One very nice, neat, effective skewering. And lots of fun to watch.”
“Fucking ssssssweet!”
Sure sounds like liberal porn to me, or a liberal circle-jerk. What’s the point already? You (collectively) hate Bush, we got it. Does it need to be the subject of 1/2 the Pit Threads, a third of Great Debates, and even one or two in IMHO? I’d be surprised if there was Bush-bashing in ATMB, but only slightly.
Not that it will happen, but I recommend that Lynn implement the Reeder solution, and limit the constant Bush-bashing to one thread at a time, in each forum.
Yeah, I mean, one of the nation’s highest officials lied on national television… and the entire administration has been lying about the issue for months… but it’s not like this is an… an issue. Hell, I lie all the time and nobody pits me for it! What makes this Rumsfeld guy so damn different? Huh? HUH?
Give up, milroyj. He lied. Many administration officials have repeated this same lie. When major government officials repeatedly lie to the public, that is an issue. This is important. Your lame attempts to downplay the issue are not.
Your preference for Fake Boobs has been duly noted, no accounting for taste. Some folks like life in chains. However, your desire to limit everyone’s access to real Boobs is a serious perversion of mainstream American values. We are a TRUTH SEEKING people.
Yea, I was being somewhat flippant but only somewhat. Of course, a life is a life. However, I am going to be more likely to generate empathy, or outrage, towards someone similar to myself - namely a U.S. citizen. Since I am a member of that same group, to see another citizen’s rights being ignored, well… it is not hard to imagine that you might be next. It is late and I am not making much sense I guess. What I am trying to say is that as a U.S. citizen you naturally expect that your constitution rights mean something.
Feh, it is too late and I am exhausted and making little to no sense. Yes, you are right… sort of. We probably agree more than disagree. Ignore me as soon as I stop typing, okay?
People who hate Bush for the war always hated Bush. There is no outcome of the war or any information or rational discussion of the events and information availible before the war that will disuade them from their hatred.
No more gassing of innocent Iraqis, no more rape squads, no more torture, no more threat of ANY kind from Iraq. These things escape their narrow minds.
Frankly, they digust me. 25 MILLION people no longer live in fear of a dictatoship and are on the verge of freedom and democracy.
But this escapes them. I feel bad for them. I really do. How sad to deny the freedom of so many for pettines of so few.
Makes one wonder how many deaths Rumsfeld would think was to many. Lets hope we don’t have to find out.
I personally feel one death from a war started with deceits and lies is one death to many.
Of course, you wouldn’t dream of blaming the killers, looters, kidnappers, or rapists. Somehow, in your world, it’s the fault of the US and/or President Bush. You’re an idiot.
Of course. How foolish to think that a war might have a destabilizing influence on a country. Curse those killers, looters, kidnappers, and rapists for scheduling their killing, looting, kidnapping, and raping in such a way as to distract everybody from all the happy Iraqis celebrating their freedom.
No, I just don’t like piss-toed cowards who try to claim noble motives after all the lies they told to get us into this war have been revealed for what they are.
I probably would’ve supported the administration had they stood up in front of the UN and said: “Y’know, this guy’s an asshole, and we’re going to take him out. Once we’ve solved that problem, we’re going to put the smackdown on Saudi Arabia – that’s where the money and people came from in the attack, after all. Those two issues will take a little while, but I’m pretty sure you guys can help us pony up a few thousand troops to take care of that dickhead in Zimbabwe. And, hey! South East Asia! Y’all wanna help us take care of the massive human rights abuses occuring in China and North Korea? That’d be great.”
But no. The administration stood up in front of the UN and trotted out bogus data claiming that we were under “imminent threat” of attack.
And while I’m on this subject, since fucking when have Republicans been all over that feel-good, “Think of the poor, down-trodden people!” bullshit? Aren’t they the same clowns who, a decade ago, were jumping up and down screaming their fool heads off over Somalia and the former Yugoslavia because the US is not supposed to be the world’s policemen?
I really don’t mind conservatives co-opting liberal values - hell, I’d be happy if more of them did! - but the least they could do is add some footnotes to their party line. Plagarism is unethical.
